WWE: 3 superstars who could be SmackDown’s ‘biggest acquisition’
Ronda Rousey
As expected, it seems like Ronda Rousey is taking a break from WWE after WrestleMania 35, where she lost the Raw Women’s Championship after being pinned by nemesis Becky Lynch. Rousey’s “rookie year” in WWE was a fantastic one inside the ring, as she put on several great matches with a variety of opponents, namely Sasha Banks at the Royal Rumble Pay Per View.
Rousey posted a photo of her on Instagram kissing husband and UFC star Travis Browne with the hashtag #ImpregnationVacation, and let’s just say the WWE Universe was mildly amused that she seems to be making this hashtag “a thing”.
But WWE stars love swerving people on social media, and Rousey has pulled a Chris Jericho-esque swerve before. Before she made her debut after the first Women’s Royal Rumble, Rousey told reporters and made several social media posts stating that she was traveling, even as rumors swirled that she’d be making her WWE debut.
It seems unlikely that this is a swerve in this case, but you never know. Becky and Ronda surely have unfinished business after WWE called a finish that left a rematch open, and while Lynch is preoccupied with Lacey Evans, the new No. 1 Contender to the Raw Women’s Championship after pinning Natalya last night, perhaps Rousey could strike.
Lesnar and Reigns can do cross-promotion, but Rousey is a bigger mainstream star and seems to be someone FOX would love to work with. I mean, Wrestling Inc. did report that FOX specifically wants Rousey to be on SmackDown Live this fall, and I don’t doubt for one second that WWE will oblige, especially with all the money tied up in this massive TV contract.
