WWE: Ranking The Top 10 Moments In Batista’s Career
2. Beating John Cena at SummerSlam
For several years, Batista and John Cena reigned supreme as the top dogs of the WWE. One ruled defiantly over SmackDown while the other ruled over Raw with an iron Five Knuckle Shuffle fist. They ascended to the mountain top at the exact same time with two respective World Title wins at WrestleMania 21.
At the height of their careers, they never went toe to toe with each other. Sure, they often tagged together and once were the final two of the 2005 Royal Rumble, but they never went one on one in an official match. Often times at the zenith of their popularity, it was never clear which one out of these two was the top face of the entire company. At SummerSlam 2008, it was finally time to settle that question once and for all.
In their match, no titles were on the line and the two babyfaces did not even necessarily hate each other. It was just time for them to decide which one of them was the best. On that night, Batista stood tall with his arm raised after the bell. Granted, Cena would get the upper hand in a more personal feud in 2010, it was big to see Batista finally establish himself as the better man against John Cena when that hypothesis was widely disputed among fans for so many years.
