WWE: 5 Prime Challengers to Kofi Kingston’s WWE Championship
By John Brown
2. Xavier Woods
Note: Big E would be included here if not for his injury
Forget the fact that teasing a New Day breakup by having Xavier Woods challenge Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship would be rather sexy. The case for Xavier Woods being contender for Kofi’s strap is much for psychological.
Prior to joining Woods and Big E in The New Day, Kofi Kingston already held a resume that would eventually land him in the WWE Hall of Fame; he had already been a four-time Intercontinental Champion, three-time United States Champion, and three-time Tag Team Champion. While a part of New Day, he felt comfortable at times to let two colleagues not nearly as decorated to defend tag team titles that Kofi also held via Freebird Rule. This means that he must consider Big E and Xavier Woods to be equals. As WWE Champion and being as selfless as he is, he should naturally want to give his New Day brothers a shot, as they have proven themselves to be equals to Kofi.
In addition to proving himself as an equal to Kingston, Xavier Woods possesses a brain capable of being devious with such a positive exterior. Woods, who has earned a PhD in Educational Psychology, has had time to observe Kingston to the point of being able to finish sentences for him. He very well could prove to be Kingston’s stiffest challenger, as there is not another member of the WWE roster who knows Kingston’s move set so well.
In a business where you are wasting your time if you are not trying to be the best, Kofi Kingston winning the WWE Championship might be the best opportunity for Xavier Woods to follow suit.
