After what was supposed to be his Monday Night Raw debut on the following week’s episode, Aleister Black reemerged on SmackDown Live in a new vignette.

Aleister Black and Ricochet appeared on both Raw and SmackDown leading up to WrestleMania 35. Last Monday, the team found their official home on the A show. However, this week Ricochet was on his own in a match against Robert Roode, and Black moved to the blue brand.

Andrade and Zelina Vega also moved back to SmackDown, so rumor has it that it had something to do with their respective relationships. It’s unclear what actually happened to cause the sudden change of plans.

At any rate, this could be a blessing in disguise for Black and Ricochet. They were a surprisingly fun team, but they both seem more suited for singles competition.

This is an opportunity to properly introduce main roster fans to the wrestler who went undefeated for most of his early run on NXT. ‘The Striking Man From Amsterdam’ went through a who’s who list of superstar before he became NXT Champion. Speaking of, his reign was tragically cut short due to a groin injury Black suffered last August.

Upon his return, he took on a supporting role in the Gargano/Ciampa feud and went on to team up with Ricochet. As such, it will be good to see Black return to dominance as a singles competitor.

Also, it couldn’t hurt to see him reinforce his gimmick for those who don’t understand it.

Judging by the tone of the vignette, Black could surface as a heel, which opens the door for a host of new possibilities for the character. If true, WWE may have missed the opportunity for him to turn on Ricochet sometime during WrestleMania weekend.

Nonetheless, Aleister would make a compelling antagonist.

“Do you really know Aleister Black?” What a fitting question and premise for his new start. This could be a misdirection because thematically he looks like a heel.

If the short was meant to serve as a commentary on the perception surrounding his appearance, that’s an intriguing idea to investigate. Admittedly, that might be even more interesting than a heel turn, because it would make Black even more relatable to a sect of wrestling fans.

On the other hand, there’s a line at the end makes which this seem like a heel promo.

“I’m sure that the world you grew up will have me condemned.” That particular phrase makes it seem like Black will be a complex figure, who believes his drastic motives are justified. Granted, his hard-hitting move-set lends itself to that kind of character, so that could be perfect for Aleister.

dark. Next. Now that he’s Robert, Roode can be Glorious

For now, we’ll have to wait and see, but a push as a singles competitor has a lot of promise regardless if he’s a heel or face.

Aleister Black already has all the tools to be a great addition to Smackdown roster—good mic skills, an extensive moveset with a unique finisher, a great look, and a killer entrance. With some fine-tuning, he could make a real impact this year.
