WWE Raw: Firefly Fun House Is The Most Intriguing Angle Right Now
The April 29 edition of WWE Raw saw the second installment of Bray Wyatt’s Firefly Fun House, the newest gimmick for a superstar that never quite reached his fullest potential as The Eater Of Worlds.
Last night’s WWE Raw was a pretty boring show, at times, with not a whole lot grabbing the attention of the WWE universe. However, that all changed when the Firefly Fun House segment returned for the second week in a row with Bray Wyatt showcasing his new gimmick that is rapidly grabbing the attention of fans.
Wyatt’s main roster career in the WWE has been one of the most disappointing in terms of him reaching his fullest potential. He had a truly unique character for a long time that made fans become invested in what he had to say, but after an abundance of inconsistent booking and downright poor booking decisions, the WWE universe started forgetting about Wyatt.
It felt like no matter how many times he had a marquee match or feud, he always came out on the losing end and after a while, that’s insulting to the fans because they know they have no reason to care with the inevitable result looming. Even when Wyatt finally won his one and only WWE Championship, it was really only to get the title on Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33.
The partnership with Woken Matt Hardy had potential and it did provide a few good moments, but it ultimately flamed out as well and after Hardy stepped away from the WWE, the powers that be decided to keep Wyatt off of TV altogether. That all changed last week when we were treated to the first segment of the Firefly Fun House. And with that one segment, Wyatt became more unique than he had been in years.
The teasers for his return had been going strong for a few weeks, but nobody expected Wyatt to return in this role, a cornball, yet still partly demented, children’s TV show host. He has new “friends” and an audience of children that hang on his every word. Seeing it for the first time last week was almost mesmerizing, seeing him say the old version of himself is gone before destroying the old Bray in cardboard cutout form with a chainsaw.
Last night’s segment was just as intriguing as the first one and when thinking about this new version of Wyatt, intriguing is the best possible word. Whether you like it or don’t, you can’t help but be intrigued. In fact, in a short amount of time, this Firefly Fun House gimmick has turned into the most intriguing angle in the WWE. This could either make or break Wyatt’s main roster career, but it’s off to an eerie start that has the WWE universe buzzing.
Past elements of Wyatt’s old character, are still teased in these segments and what makes them so intriguing is thinking about what the creative team has planned long-term. There definitely appears to be a bigger picture involved with Wyatt’s new gimmick and despite him saying his old self is gone, it still feels like it’s simmering on the surface. After all, he taught children the meaning of sociopath last night while painting a picture of the old Wyatt compound burning.
Of course, the WWE could still find a way to mess this all up and nobody would be surprised. However, this feels like something that can change the career of a superstar that desperately needed a change of pace. Wyatt’s Eater Of Worlds gimmick had run its course and very few had any interest left in it. So, this new character that resembles a deranged Mister Rogers or Steve from Blue’s Clues was needed, even if you didn’t know it.
And as crazy as it sounds on paper, Wyatt is a superstar that can, and has, made it work thus far. It’s a gimmick that manages to stand out and have fans wondering what comes next. In fact, one can argue that it’s the only thing on Raw that feels fresh, different, and unique on a show that’s otherwise the status quo. The Firefly Fun House is something that could help take Wyatt’s career to a new, and necessary, level.
No matter how it turns out, this Firefly Fun House gimmick is the most unique angle the WWE has produced in a long time and it has already rejuvenated the career of the artist formerly known as The Eater Of Worlds.
