WWE: Ricochet is primed to shine at Money In The Bank
By Brett Grega
After a WWE main roster debut which has included a fair share of highs and lows, Ricochet could break out once and for all at Money In The Bank.
Ricochet, one of the most talented high-flyers ever seen in WWE, has remained mostly grounded on the main roster.
By grounded, I don’t mean in the move-set sense however. Ricochet has still had more than his fair share of chances to show off the incredible aerial acrobatics which make him ‘The One and Only’.
No, Ricochet has been grounded in the sense that his career on the main roster hasn’t been able to quite match the heights his death-defying leaps reach in the ring.
For whatever reason, WWE decided to debut Aleister Black and Ricochet as a tag team on the main roster. Despite the fact that the two immensely talented superstars had little interaction with one another in NXT at the time, and had rather different gimmicks to boot, the pairing looked like it could have real promise though.
As the weeks went by, the chemistry between Ricochet and Black only seemed to grow too. Eventually, they were able to see that chemistry translate into not 1, not 2, but 3 tag title matches in the same week.
They lost all of them.
They couldn’t topple the War Raiders. They fell short versus The Revival. Finally, they couldn’t quite make a WrestleMania moment for themselves this year.
All missed opportunities by WWE to give Aleister Black and Ricochet the push they deserved. The push that any 2 superstars who showed they had that much talent in NXT deserved to get. That brings us to today.
Now, with Aleister Black starring in a series of mysterious vignettes on SmackDown, Ricochet is left alone on Raw.
WWE now has a clean slate to work with. Luckily, that means it’s now far less likely that the long string of disappointments each superstar experienced when working together would come back to hinder their rise to the top of the company.
In short, that means both Aleister Black and Ricochet can start anew on the main roster.
While it’s too early to tell whether or not that fresh start will be beneficial to Black on SmackDown, it’s fair to say Ricochet is already seeing that change pay off in spades on Raw.
Recently, it was revealed that Ricochet will receive a spot in this year’s Men’s Money In The Bank match. For those who may not be familiar with Richochet’s past history in ladder matches, that could mean we finally see ‘The One and Only’ reach his full potential on the main roster.
In NXT, Ricochet competed in the North American Championship Six-Man Ladder Match at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans. Given his penchant for soaring through the air, it was no surprise that he was one of the matches’ biggest stars.
Amidst a sea of impressive performances, Ricochet stole the show, along with Velveteen Dream, with multiple awe-inspiring spots including an epic duel on a ladder suspended horizontally across half the ring.
That match is just one example of the levels Ricochet can reach when he’s not impeded by the bounds of a typical match.
Ricochet also starred in one of the most memorable moments in NXT over the past year at TakeOver: WarGames II. Flying off the massive steel structure, Ricochet proved once again why he’s one of the most thrilling superstars in WWE in that match:
Those performances could just be a taste of what’s in store for fans when Ricochet competes for the Money In The Bank Briefcase on May 19th.
If WWE gives him the opportunity to show fans of the main roster all that he’s capable of at Money In The Bank, then there’s almost no question that Ricochet could see his 2019 fortunes make a 180 compared to where we saw him at just a short time ago.
Just one performance like he gave in those matches at NXT, and Ricochet should be able to cement his status once and for all as one of WWE’s biggest stars to watch moving forward.
