WWE 24/7 Championship unveiled on Raw by Mick Foley

News broke during WWE Money in the Bank that we’d be getting a brand new championship revealed tonight on WWE Raw. Mick Foley appeared and revealed the brand new WWE 24/7 Championship, a title to be defended at all times.

We saw the brief return of WWE legend Mick Foley tonight to reveal the WWE 24/7 Championship. There were hints as Foley described what it means to be a champion, finally emphasizing that being a champion is something done at all times.

With a drumroll to build anticipation, Mick Foley finally showed us the WWE 24/7 Championship. Aside from the too-obvious name and horrendous design that looks like it was put together this afternoon, the concept itself is actually a great addition to WWE.

As Foley explained, the title will be defended 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. All it takes to win the title is for a referee to be present for the decision.

On top of the news that the title will be defended at all times, it can also be defended against all superstars. Foley emphasized superstars from Raw, SmackDown, 205 Live, NXT, NXT UK, and legends are all eligible to challenge for the title.

As exciting as the 24/7 rule is, it’s important to note that this is far from the first time this concept has existed in WWE. During the fabled Attitude Era, the WWF Hardcore Championship had a “24/7 rule” which was introduced by then-champion Crash Holly.

Crash Holly, who was at times billed as a “super heavyweight” weighing “allegedly well over 400 lbs,” was a crucial part of the comedy and unpredictability that thrived during the Attitude Era. Despite being 5′ 8” and barely 205 lbs, Crash Holly was willing to defend his title at all times against all challengers.

Foley revealed that the first WWE 24/7 Champion would be crowned tonight. Foley left the title laying in the ring, rang the bell, and announced the first man to grab the title would be the champion.

Absolute chaos ensued with Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Mojo Rawley, EC3, Eric Young, and others scrambling towards the ring in hopes of becoming the first champion. After the dust settled, Titus O’Neil snagged the championship and escaped the ring as the first ever WWE 24/7 Champion.

Unfortunately, his reign didn’t last long. While backing his way up the ramp, Titus O’Neil was caught from behind by Robert Roode who rolled him up with a schoolboy pin. A referee was right there to count the fall, and Robert Roode was crowned the second and current WWE 24/7 Champion.

Later in the night, we saw Roode scurrying around backstage trying to stay out of sight for fear that someone would attack him and take his newly won WWE 24/7 Championship. With a little over half an hour left on WWE Raw, Robert Roode is the WWE 24/7 Champion, but how long can he stay champion?

Update 10:40 p.m. ET: While trying to escape the arena, Robert Roode ran into R-Truth, who launched a surprise attack on him and revealed a referee he was hiding in his car. Truth pinned Roode to become the third WWE 24/7 Champion.
