The IIconics may be the Women’s Tag Team Champions, but WWE sure isn’t treating them like it. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce deserve better.

When people become champions, no matter whether they are in WWE or any other sport, you have a certain kind of expectation for them. Mainly, you expect them to be able to win to defend their title. If they can’t, then they simply shouldn’t be champion anymore.

By that fairly sound logic, The IIconics run with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships should have basically ended before it began.

The IIconics have lost, and lost a lot, after winning those titles. In fact, the list of superstars they’ve failed to beat reads off like something of a who’s who of WWE’s women’s divisions.

Becky Lynch, Bayley, Naomi, Ember Moon and more highlight a list that goes on and on. It’s amazing that out of such a diverse set of challengers across both brands, WWE has not given The IIconics a single solid victory.

I get that their heel champions. It’s fine that clean victories are somewhat rare because of that, but they can’t even get a sneaky win most of the time! No roll-ups with feet on the ropes, or holding the opponents tights to steal a win. Nope, just clean losses over and over again.

I almost hate to say it, but it’s starting to feel like WWE is burying The IIconics. Between having them lose to practically every superstar under the sun to not even giving them a chance to defend their titles at Money in the Bank, it’s hard to feel like WWE has a legitimate plan for The IIconics to succeed.

I just wish I knew why. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce are both solid in-ring superstars. They would be more than capable of putting on a great title defense if they were given the chance.

On top of that, both Kay and Royce have put out some great promo work recently. Their over-the-top heel personalities and antics have garnered a clear fan following lately.

Add it all up, and you get a team that should be having a successful title run, not one that barely seems to be able to get any traction.

I guess if there’s one bright spot to The IIconics current situation though, it’s that they seem to be on track to get their first major title defense against Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss.

The problem is that Royce has unsurprisingly already lost to Cross in a singles match, and they’ve collectively already lost to them as a team in a six-woman tag match. Given their recent history, it’s going to be hard to buy The IIconics as legitimate contenders to keep their tag titles against Bliss and Cross if all they do is lose to them.

It’s just another example of how WWE is mishandling Billie Kay and Peyton Royce.

WWE’s women’s divisions are rather deep right now. There should be no shortage of superstars who could take a loss or 2 in order to build up a new tag teams. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross could easily have beat a team like Fire and Desire to prove they earn a shot at the champs rather than by actually beating the champs themselves.

Let’s not pretend like it’s a problem with the brand split either. Any superstars can appear on any show under the wild card rule basically, so it should be pretty simple for WWE to come up with a different heel team for Cross and Bliss to beat.

When you put that together with the recent history of losses and absences WWE has forced The IIconics through, it’s becoming hard to look optimistically on their remaining time as Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Next. SmackDown has a far better booked tag division than Raw. dark

Peyton Royce and Billie Kay are 2 talented superstars who deserve better treatment than this. Hopefully, even if their title reign crashes and burns, they can get out from under this growing mountain of terrible booking weighing down on them to eventually make a real mark in WWE.
