Becky Lynch and Beth Phoenix have quietly teased a match between them ever since The Glamazon returned to the ring. WWE just need to give us what we want already.

Becky Lynch recently did another WWE Now interview with Cathy Kelley. This time, the Raw Women’s Champion threw the gauntlet down for what she expects to see in her next challenger for her title. No, not her Stomping Grounds opponent, Lacey Evans, but an opponent who Lynch personally seems to be keener on facing sometime in the future.

“She is a woman who has paved the way. I am The Man who is now currently paving the way. I want opposition. I want opponents. I want somebody who has proved themselves, that has worked in this business for a long time, that has cared about this business, that has carried this business, that hasn’t always gotten the appreciation that they deserve, but I want that person to step up and challenge me because I want to be challenged.

And I think Beth Phoenix can challenge me.”

Lynch directly called out Beth Phoenix as a potential challenger, but it wouldn’t be the first time she’s done so this year. Ever since the WWE Hall of Famer returned to the ring for a one-off WrestleMania appearance and ever since Becky Lynch became Becky 2 Belts, these two have been interlocked in a Twitter feud of sorts. Their Twitter banter has been going on for months now.

Even outside of Twitter, they’ve shared a couple exchanges and staredowns to suggest that a match between them could be in the works. As far as we know, WWE don’t have any plans to bring this feud to television or to the ring at all, but they should.

As Lynch explained in her aforementioned interview, she continues to goad the new NXT commentator online to get Beth Phoenix out of retirement and into a match with her. Judging by the reactions and responses from fans, this is something that fans desperately want to see.

WWE is always at its best when delivering exactly what the fans want and ask for. That sounds obvious on paper, but WWE seem to give the fans what they want so rarely that it feels like a breath of fresh air when WWE do just that.

It’s why moments like Becky Lynch’s WrestleMania coronation or Eddie Guerrero’s WWE Championship win are so fondly remembered. Moments like these weren’t in WWE’s original plans months beforehand, but thanks to fans pushing the issue so eagerly after being invested in these characters so intensely, these moments came to fruition. The call for Lynch vs Phoenix feels like one of those moments.

Moments like this are fondly remembered years after the fact. WWE would be right to deliver us another in a long list of moments to remember by giving us Beth Phoenix vs Becky Lynch at some point in the near future. We, the fans, are still The Authority, right? That is what Triple H told us so many months ago, right? Well, “The Authority” seemed to have reached a consensus on their next anticipated match.

Now, I won’t lie and act like I know about buy rates and tell you that giving the fans what they want would guarantee big bucks for the company – though I would like to assume that to be the case – because I’m no expert. I can’t guarantee that putting one of the most over acts – arguably the most over act – on the WWE roster against one of the most respected legends in WWE history is going to put butts in seats or make a huge, upward difference in ratings or sales.

Again, financially, when it comes to WWE’s pockets, I’m no expert.

What I am, however, is a fan. A fan who, like many other fans it seems, is invested in seeing a match between Becky Lynch and Beth Phoenix. A fan who personally would pay to see The Man take on The Glamazon. I’d like to say other fans would do the same, but I can’t speak on the pockets of other fans. But judging by the interest piqued by the wrestling community from these Twitter interactions, a match is likely to produced just as much – if not more, interest.

Becky Lynch outright declared she wants it. Beth Phoenix wants it. Plenty of fans seem to want it. WWE, please, quit the stalling already and give us what everybody wants!
