Recently, WWE has chosen to basically repackage Aleister Black through a series of promos which may grow dull if something more doesn’t come from them.

For weeks now, WWE has been peppering the airwaves with Aleister Black vignettes. In the most recent of those promos on SmackDown, an increasingly intense Black practically begged someone to challenge him to a match.

While I’m sure some have lamented that these kind of promos from Black are just time-fillers keeping one of WWE’s more exciting superstars from actually doing what he does best in the ring, I see it a bit differently.

These promos, especially the latest one, have done a better job than I initially would have expected at adding some character to Aleister Black.

Instead of the almost video game-esque random commentary lines that WWE was initially using to refer to Black, these promos have been able to tie some actual voice and identity to him.

In other words, hopefully these promos keep him from becoming the next version of The Ascension by actually providing fans some reason to feel something about his gimmick other than confusion.

Nevertheless, as necessary as I think these vignettes might have been, they’re rapidly reaching their expiration date. There’s only so many weeks fans can watch Black wax poetically about potential opponents before something is going to have to happen to back those words up.

Fortunately, I feel like this most recent promo might be the start of bringing these vignettes to a head.

I honestly can’t imagine WWE making Black quake with rage at not having any challengers for much more than another week. It would really seem like they were stuck in a holding pattern if those kind of promos stretched on longer than that, something which I would assume WWE would want to avoid.

That could potentially leave us at Stomping Grounds. With it’s thin card chalk full of unnecessary rematches, it would almost be an ideal spot for Black to re-debut either by demanding a challenger face him in the ring, or by interfering in someone else’s match to force a fight.

A moment like that would basically be guaranteed to stand out on a weaker pay-per-view like Stomping Grounds, giving this entire angle with Aleister Black the maximum amount of effect it could really have while simultaneously injecting some excitement and intrigue in a show that might very well need it.

Overall, it would just seem to make the most sense for Black to return to the ring sooner rather than later, no matter how crucial these recent vignettes may prove to be in the end.
