AEW Fyter Fest: Full card and predictions
Cody vs Darby Allin
The match will serve as Darby Allin’s first match in AEW. Meanwhile, Cody is taking a pit stop between defeating his brother at Double or Nothing and teaming with Dustin at Fight for the Fallen next month to take on The Young Bucks.
For those less familiar with Darby Allin, he is a “devil may care” type of daredevil that throws caution to the wind like a modern day Jeff Hardy. Allin’s style of wrestling often sees him fling his body into his opponents. Most of his matches also sees his opponent beat the ever loving potato snot out of him.
As he has showcased for promotions like Evolve, Allin is at his best when he’s selling and taking a beating. He plays a phenomenal underdog in matches in the same vein of similar small men like Rey Mysterio. As he scratches and claws his way towards a win – no matter how unlikely it may seem – and as he continues to resiliently kick out no matter how much blood, sweat and tears he has poured onto the mat, it’s hard not to root for the guy by the end, even if you’ve never seen his work before.
That underdog character could go over well in AEW. Allowing Cody to flex his heel muscles a little bit in this match (i.e. belittle him, be cocky about wrestling a guy not on his level, etc) could go a long way as well. We could be seeing another star making performance for Allin tonight, but to get that underdog character over, it will be for the best for Allin to take a loss.
If the crowd buy in to this underdog resilience from Allin, a loss could do more to put him over than a win tonight. I can also see Cody raising Allin’s arm after the match, patting him on the back or just picking up a mic and singing Allin’s praises, similar to what Jon Moxley did after his own match with Allin this match. Which, speaking of Moxley, that brings us to our next contest.
Winner: Cody
