Joe Anthony Myrick’s Top 5

  1. AJ Styles
  2. Seth Rollins
  3. Johnny Gargano
  4. Kofi Kingston
  5. Charlotte Flair

The top spot is still neck and neck, and even interchangeable for me. Both are phenomenal in the ring, but the reason I give the top spot to Styles is because of the scope of his WWE career so far. If you look at his WWE career alone, sans everything non-WWE, he’s still become one of the most decorated Superstars in the company’s history. The same can be said for Rollins, but while his main roster journey has progressed since 2012, Styles has reached similar success in just over three years.

Solely looking at in-ring work, Rollins has been in the prime of his life so far and isn’t slowing down any time soon. He continues to improve with each passing match, somehow. When he calls himself the best wrestler on the planet, it’s hard to argue with him. His work speaks for itself.

With Styles, while an argument can be made that Styles is past his prime, you wouldn’t know it looking at his in-ring work. He only just had a terrific match against Ricochet last week in his return from injury, and an instant classic with Rollins last month at Money in the Bank. Styles is still as phenomenal as ever.

Gargano, while I still put Styles and Rollins above him as in-ring workers, I think a solid argument can be made for Gargano being the company’s best pure storyteller. His selling combined with his facial expressions tell a bigger story in all of his matches – no matter how high the stakes are – that makes for compelling viewing, especially when he kicks into another gear offense wise. Just imagine where he’ll be whenever he reaches the main roster.

Kofi Kingston, meanwhile, has remained one of the better in-ring competitors for over a decade in WWE, but since winning the WWE Championship, his game has improved to a whole nother level. He consistently has had the best match of the week – often in Match of the Year candidates, no less – just about every week now between his work on Raw, SmackDown and PPV.

Charlotte Flair, the sole woman on my list, has proven to be just as good – if not better – than her own father, one of the best wrestlers in WWE history in his own right. That alone deserves high praise in itself. Last name aside, Charlotte has molded herself into an all around superb athlete and one of the best WWE Superstars on the current roster, regardless of gender.
