PC: At Heavy Metal Wrestling, do you make a point to spotlight more local talent rather than only bringing in big names from around the country?

DD: We actually have a pretty solid little blend of the two, I’d say. We partner up with Sabotage Wrestling and Inspire Pro Wrestling, both in Austin, Texas, in order to collaborate and bring talent down here, because it’s a lot easier to get nationally known and globally known talent down to Texas for three shows as opposed to just one show. Everybody works, it’s easiest for everybody, everybody makes money that way, and you get a little tour almost lined up for these guys.

I enjoy bringing in nationally known names because it helps our numbers, obviously, more people are going to tune in if they see these nationally known names. That’s my bait. I’m gonna bring you in. With our next show, we’ve got New Jack. That’s my bait to get people in the door, and then I’ll blow them away with everything else. I’ll reel you in with local talent that’s gonna blow you away.

One of the things I enjoy as well is using some of the top independent wrestling guys that are at the top of their game right now. Guys like Darby Allin, he was just on All Elite, ended up debuting with Heavy Metal last year in a singles match against another local talent who’s done well for himself, Cody Lane. As much as it’s nice to build up and cultivate a local scene, being able to put those people against national talent, everybody wins.

That’s one of my things, is I’m always looking for the best way, where everybody wins and everybody is successful in the end. Putting these local talents who just need that opportunity with a nationally known talent, it gives them that opportunity to shine and show what you’re able to do.

It’s a little bit of a fine line to walk. Obviously, you know, we push our local talent and showcase them the best that we can. Independent wrestling is just so hot right now, there’s so many top talents. We’ve done a really good job to create some buzz down here in Texas, and now we’ve reached the point where those top talents are reaching out to me to get onto these events.

PC: I know that Heavy Metal Thunder airs weekly on Twitch. Do you tape weekly or tape multiple episodes in advance?

DD: Yes, we tape every week, sometimes twice a week. Right now, our format is basically where we’re taping every Thursday. And the cool thing is that all of our shows, with the exception of one show a month, is gonna be a hundred percent free. Free admission to everything except for one.

We basically kind of modeled it after, that one show a month is a premiere event or our pay-per-view, so to speak. That one’s got all the best talent, all the best names. But we have our local events every week on Thursday, those are free. Sometimes we have local events on Fridays that are just kind of in different areas of San Antonio, and things like that. Those are free as well.
