Liv Morgan became a trending topic on Twitter during last night’s WWE SmackDown Live, as she stood up to Charlotte Flair before teasing a new gimmick. It looks like she’s finally headed for an opportunity to break out as a singles star.

Although most WWE fans were sleeping on Liv Morgan’s sky-high potential in NXT, it seems as if the vast majority of fans have realized just how high her ceiling is. Morgan broke away from Riott Squad teammates Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan during the Superstar Shakeup, switching allegiances from Raw to SmackDown Live.

This move excited fans, who saw this as a chance for WWE to develop Morgan into a singles star. While Riott has been in world title matches, including a strong Fastlane 2018 effort against Charlotte Flair, and Sarah Logan has in-ring talent, Morgan showed incredible upside during the Riott Squad’s six-woman tag matches.

Morgan’s selling is a sight to behold, and her toughness is approaching legendary status. More than just a great athlete who can break into a bridge in a mere millisecond, Morgan is a bad-ass of the squared circle. And she captivates the audience with all her little quirks in the ring, such as her tantrums and her break-neck selling. She might even be the second-best seller in the women’s division behind Sasha Banks.

More from SmackDown

Maybe more importantly, Morgan needs mere minutes to make an impression. On last night’s episode of SmackDown, she only had a brief amount of time on the mic and in the ring to stand up to Charlotte Flair, one of the best wrestlers on this planet.

And that she did. Morgan became a trending topic on Twitter and showed off her strong in-ring work against Charlotte, earning widespread admiration from WWE fans for her brief exchanges with Flair. WWE didn’t allot much time to this match, but, well, Morgan is used to only having brief moments to shine, having wrestled so many six-woman tag matches.

What happened after the match earned more attention. Morgan walked over to Corey Graves, took his mic, and hinted that she’ll be making a comeback at a later date with a new gimmick. And then she walked off, brilliantly selling the after-effects of a match with a returning Queen.

Morgan’s gimmick change should be exciting. She put her heart and soul into “rioting” and has gotten a blue tongue more over than WWE has gotten over Drew McIntyre. So it’s safe to say that whatever her next character is, she’ll make it work.

WWE needs to keep giving fans a reason to cheer for rising stars like Morgan, Apollo Crews, and Cedric Alexander. Though the latter two won their matches this week and Morgan lost, it was Morgan who made the biggest impression on WWE fans. Plus, well, beating Charlotte is a LOT harder than beating McIntyre and Andrade, who haven’t won anywhere near the number of titles Flair has in WWE.

Morgan has always had the talent to be a breakout star in WWE, and the scary thing is that she’s only gotten markedly better with each passing month. She has the athletic tools, the mind for the business, and the “It” factor that allows her to get pretty much anything over. These are exciting times for Morgan, who will have the WWE Universe waiting with bated breath until she makes her return. Morgan should be squarely on everyone’s radar as a breakout star and future world champion if she hasn’t already been someone to watch intently.
