WWE SummerSlam: Seth Rollins vs Brock Lesnar is a lose-lose scenario

Last Sunday saw Brock Lesnar finally cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules to become the new WWE Universal Champion.

Because WWE has a new kayfabe policy where the previous champion no longer receives an automatic rematches at the next PPV, Brock Lesnar needed a new challenger for SummerSlam. However, because Seth Rollins was able to earn that number one contendership after winning a 10-Man Battle Royal on Raw the next night, The Beastslayer has another chance to slay The Beast to get his title back.

The match will also serve as a tie-breaker between the two gladiators, seeing as Rollins first defeated Lesnar by pinfall at WrestleMania 35. Then, of course, Lesnar got his win back after the main event of Extreme Rules last Sunday. Considering the stakes, the build-up, and the history between both competitors, this should be an exciting affair, but I cannot help but feel like their SummerSlam match is only a lose-lose situation for everyone involved.

Let me break it down …

The way I see it, if Seth Rollins wins, then it makes Brock’s win last Sunday pointless. Which is even worse considering that before Brock, the men’s Money in the Bank briefcase suffered from two consecutive failed cash-ins these past two years, rendering the case into a mute point if it doesn’t guarantee both a win and a long title reign like it used to. Plus, it’d be awfully underwhelming for WWE to orchestrate this whole thing just to put the belt back on Rollins in a month.

And yet, if Rollins loses, he comes out looking weaker as a result. For all of this talk – both in and out of the ring – about being the best wrestler in the world only to once again fall victim to Brock Lesnar. That, and, you know, we’ve got a part timer as a top champion again, which I’m sure few people are happy about.

WWE needs to do better by their 205 Live guys. dark. Next

I’m not asking WWE to reverse their decision or add another participant to the match to spice things up. I’m just saying it’s hard for me to give a hoot about the main event of SummerSlam when I don’t see a benefit for either guy coming out of it. Hope I’m wrong.
