Never say never is the mantra of the day, it seems, as CM Punk is making his long awaited return to the wrestling world. Although, it won’t be for any actual wrestling.

Hard to believe it has been over five years already that Phil “CM Punk” Brooks infamously walked away from WWE and wrestling altogether. Since then, in between penning comic books and holding an MMA record in the UFC of 0-2, Punk has professed on more than one occasion that he’s done with wrestling. Specifically, he has said that not only has he vowed to never step foot in WWE again, he does not have any plans to wrestle again.

For all intents and purposes, it sounded like Mr. Brooks was well done with the wrestling world. However, in light of some recent news, it looks like the former WWE Champion is making a big comeback to the world. No, not the actual ring, but to the wrestling world as a whole.

Sports Illustrated is reporting that CM Punk will be appearing in front of his hometown crowd of Chicago, Illinois for a one-on-one interview and meet and greet sessions at Starrcast.

For those unaware, Starrcast is an independently run wrestling convention. Think Comic Con, but with even more tight spandex and just a dash of grappling. It features several legendary wrestling personalities, podcasters, and current wrestlers. The third incarnation of the event will be taking place between Aug. 29 and Sept. 1. Punk will be headlining on the Aug. 31 show, which coincidentally falls on the same day as AEW’s All Out Pay-Per-View.

It is also worth noting that earlier this year at an independent wrestling show in Wisconsin, a masked man did a run-in and Ring of Honor’s Silas Young strongly hinted that the masked man was none other than CM Punk. Could all of this be setting up for an actual in-ring return for the Chicago Made ex-Superstar?

As the mantra goes, never say never.
