Last Monday Night on Raw saw Bray Wyatt make his long awaited return to the WWE Universe with Finn Balor square in his sights.

After both he and his beloved Firefly Fun House segments disappeared from WWE television just over a month ago with no explanation to his whereabouts, Bray Wyatt returned to Raw. He did so after attacking Finn Balor following the former Universal Champion’s loss to Samoa Joe. While a reason why is yet to be given, the message was sent when The Eater of Worlds drove Balor’s head face first into the mat. With his new Fiend persona, it looks like Wyatt is back and better than ever.

With SummerSlam coming around the corner less than four weeks from now, this angle seems to suggest that Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt is in the cards for, well, the main card, and according to infamous wrestling insider, Dave Meltzer, this is exactly WWE’s plan. Although, some fans may be disappointed to learn that Meltzer also reported that WWE wants Wyatt to face the Finn Balor, not The Demon.

As disappointing as it is to learn, I understand why that may be the case if it’s true. I painfully disagree – I’ll explain why in a sec – but I get where WWE’s coming from. As of now, The Demon has yet to ever be defeated in competition. Whenever Balor dons his war paint, it’s game over for whoever is facing him. If WWE intend on giving Wyatt a big win following his reintroduction to WWE storylines, then it seems they want to save Demon Balor’s first loss for a bigger moment.

However, in my opinion, that is exactly why WWE should let The Demon out and, most importantly, have him lose to Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam.

For Bray Wyatt to make the impact that WWE want him to, and the impact he desperately needs following his character change, there is no bigger statement that Wyatt – or, rather, The Fiend – could make than becoming the first man to successfully defeat Finn Balor in his Demon form.

Defeating regular ole Balor won’t mean anything. In fact, Wyatt did so before two years ago on the Aug. 14, 2017 edition of Raw. For Wyatt to be taken seriously immediately as a new threat on the roster and to officially shed whatever damage his character has gone through these past few years, there is no better way to do so than by defeating The Demon.

Plus, with new reports saying that whether Balor dons his paint or not, he is leaving for a vacation after SummerSlam, that makes it even more necessary for Wyatt to shockingly pull off an upset against The Demon. That in itself gives the character of Finn Balor an onscreen reason to take a step back from the ring for the same reason as the man behind the character: to recharge his batteries (and get married, apparently) following a shellshocked loss.

Hopefully, if there is any truth to this rumor from The Wrestling Observer, WWE comes to their senses before their second biggest event of the year airs and not only lets Finn be The Demon, but lets him lose to Wyatt in the same breath.
