Kofi Kingston should drop the WWE Championship so he can win the Royal Rumble match

Kofi Kingston has been an excellent champion considering the current WWE climate. Now, discussions are being had on how long he should keep the title.

Remember when we were all calling for Kofi Kingston to be given more opportunities to really shine in the WWE?

Remember when Kofi Kingston put on a career-defining performance in the now-iconic gauntlet match back in February of this year, and people were begging WWE to “put the wood on Kofi?”

I don’t even have to ask whether or not you remember when he won the WWE Championship (finally), and had quite possibly the best WrestleMania moment of the decade.

I get more emotional rewatching the match than I did in the actual moment because quite frankly, I was too busy screaming!

All that being said, while I was happy for him, I was scared for him at the same time due to WWE’s inexperience in booking champions of color correctly. Prime example, Bobby Lashley.

However, I’ve been quite surprised to see that Kofi’s championship reign has actually been quite decent despite the overall company being a total mess right now.

His next challenger, ironically, seems to be Randy Orton. Fans have been waiting on this for a decade, and i’m cool with that. I’m cool with their history being addressed and settled at Summerslam.

But, with all due respect, I really don’t think Randy Orton should be the one to dethrone Kofi. Besides, I think Randy has had enough championship reigns. Don’t you?

Now I have noticed the amount of fans either calling for Kofi Kingston to lose the title asap, or discussing how much longer he should hold the title in general.

Some people say Kofi should lose it at SummerSlam. I disagree completely. I even saw someone say he should hold the title all the way until the next WrestleMania.

Aww man. That last one is really tempting! Think about it!

You have a lot of fans who never thought, and still don’t think, that Kofi is “worthy” of holding that championship let alone holding it for such a long period of time.

However, when I ate my bunny snack and thought about it, the last suggestion scares me. If Kofi holds the title that long and loses it, there’s a good chance that he’ll probably never hold it again.

In a way that’s fine since “people like him” were never really meant to hold that title.. And he did it! At least he can say he achieved what looked to be impossible. He made history and no one can take that away from him!

But, I still think the door should always remain cracked for a future reign.

So, SummerSlam is too quick (in my opinion) and WrestleMania is too long. It’s almost like a math problem, isn’t it?!

So. What’s the best way to solve this problem?

Well, I’ll tell you what’s been rolling around in my brain. It goes like this…

His match at Clash of Champions should be against another champion in the company for bragging rights, and his match at Hell in a Cell should be with his next challenger prior to Saudi Arabia.

I would say his Clash of Champions opponent should be Brock Lesnar, but let’s not kid ourselves. Brock Lesnar is not showing up for no Clash of Champions. That’s #1!

And #2, Lesnar is one of those people who has all the accomplishments and all the experience. But he barely wants to show up to work — all shade! He’s a no-go.

So, quite frankly, I think it should be the NXT champion — whoever that shall be after NXT Takeover: Toronto.

I’m personally pulling for Adam Cole (Bay Bay). Fans have been interested in a possible stable feud between The New Day and The Undisputed Era for a while now.

That would be the perfect way to set the stage for a feud at some point in 2020!

Now when it comes to his Hell In A Cell opponent, I’m torn between Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. Nope. Scratch that. It needs to be Seth Rollins.

Odds are, Seth isn’t winning that Universal Championship at SummerSlam. So, that’s why I’m not even giving that energy.

So, let’s all assume that Seth loses at SummerSlam. I think it would be a good time to revisit a match between Seth and Kofi. I know Seth is technically speaking on Monday Night Raw. But, you know, wild card rule, right?

A match between the two in a cell is pretty much guaranteed to be, say it with me, I-conic! As long as Seth looks strong in defeat, everything will be fine.

Now, I know people don’t like WWE doing events in Saudi Arabia, and I completely understand that.

But, I think WWE’s upcoming Saudi Arabia PPV needs to be where Kofi’s first reign ends. Notice how I said his first reign.

It needs to be Kofi Kingston vs (Mustafa) Ali!

Ali could make the case that while he was happy for Kofi Kingston finally getting his well overdue WWE Championship reign, he respectfully still wants that championship opportunity that he lost due to injury.

I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take a chance on Ali with the belt, and we shouldn’t make him wait any longer than he already has. It would be the perfect conclusion of that journey for Ali, in my opinion.

Kofi dropping the title would also be ideal because it’ll open the door for Kofi to finally win that Royal Rumble match! A win that Kofi has been kept away from for well over a decade.

This way, Kofi gains an opportunity to win the championship back at the next WrestleMania, and he’ll be able to end that losing streak all at the same time!

Think about it like this.

The only thing better than Kofi getting championship opportunities, and an excellent storyline was Kofi winning the Championship at WrestleMania.

The only thing that’s better than Kofi being the WWE Champion, with a decent title reign, is him dropping the title to the proper opponent, and finally winning the Royal Rumble for an opportunity to win the championship back.

And literally, the only thing better than that is the fans seeing Kofi Kingston winning the championship back at the same pay-per-view where he won it the first time — which would also give him a WrestleMania streak!

Not just one KofiMania. But, two of them!

It’s perfect!

Let’s go through this again.

  • Kofi dropping the title to Ali in Saudi Arabia
  • Kofi Kingston finally winning the Royal Rumble match
  • And Kofi winning the WWE championship back at Wrestlemania 36!

I really think that this is what’s best for business! Either way, Kofi is in the history books regardless of what happens.

He’s bound to lose the title eventually. But, the fans are still way too behind him to be kept from the WWE Championship for long. On the flip side, Kofi holding his title too long is just not a good idea.

Next. A match with Shawn Michaels is the only way to make Dolph Ziggler interesting. dark

No matter what, we only want the best for King Kofi.

Yup! I said it! I called him King Kofi caused I had to put some respect on his name!

Bunny out!
