WWE NXT: Jordan Myles has been a standout in NXT Breakout Tournament
Wednesday night, Jordan Myles defeated Angel Garza to advance to the finals of the NXT Breakout Tournament. So far, he has been the standout of the first-time event.
The NXT Breakout Tournament has been an excellent way to introduce new acquisitions to the NXT Universe. The eight-man competition grants newcomer opportunity to prove themselves and the winner will receive a shot at the title of their choosing.
Many of the entrants have made an impression, but no one has shined brighter than Jordan Myles.
In the first two rounds, he was easily the most charismatic, capturing the Full Sail crowd with his high energy, infectious smile, and animated taunts.
Myles also displayed a high degree of versatility. In his match again Boa, he pulled off impressive chain wrestling, some flashy moves and feats of agility, and a killer 450 splash.
This week, Angel Garza grounded him for most of the match, which forced Myles to rely on his stiff kicks and jaw-dropping strength. Seriously, the deadlift german suplex into a bridging pin he used to put Garza away looked incredible. It’s a testament to how good he is that he managed to put on two distinct matches, and show off a different style in both.
Myles, who is better known as ACH, boast 12 years of experience in the industry. The Austin native is one of the most seasoned competitors in the tournament. He has worked with CZW, AAW, Dragon Gate USA, Chikara, PWG, Evolve, and Ring of Honor.
He attended an NXT tryout camp in March of 2014. WWE didn’t offer Myles a contract at the end, but he took it in stride.
When asked about it on Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast he said, “Good things happen to those that wait and it’s truly true. I am a firm believer in when it happens it’s supposed to happen. I can patiently wait and honestly, I love the Indies.”
In the years that followed, Myles wrestled across the globe with promotions like Pro Wrestling Noah, New Japan, and AAA.
While in Japan, he and Taiji Ishimori enjoyed some success as a tag team. The two won Noah’s 2016 NTV G+ Cup Junior Heavyweight Tag League 2016. In addition, they picked up a win against the reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, Young Bucks, in the 2016 Super Jr. Tag Tournament.
It’s safe to say he has matured in the last six years. Anyone familiar with work with ROH knows Myles can wrestle but his recent performances prove he will excel with NXT. He has the right balance of showmanship and in-ring ability.
Jordan Myles will go on to face either Bronson Reed or Cameron Grimes in the finals at NXT TakeOver: Toronto. It’s his chance to make a name for himself as the first Breakout Tournament winner.
Whatever happens, he will be a guy to look out for in the months to come. It’s not hard to believe he could be a legitimate contender for one of the NXT titles in the near future.
