WWE Superstar Lio Rush talks about his debut rap single, “Scenic Lullaby”
JAM: Going back to “Scenic Lullaby” for just one second, since this is your debut single, I was wondering if you were working on an album and if so, when can we expect it to drop?
Rush: Like I said, I’m always writing. I’m always thinking about new things to put out. I definitely was not expecting the amount of positive feedback that I’ve been getting from this single. I haven’t seen this in a really long time. Just positivity all the way through. It’s been amazing and I think that I can get a lot out of this single.
We’re gonna just see how this one goes, see what the reactions are, how long reactions can play out and maybe I’ll put out another single just to give the people and the fans and the viewers just a little taste of what’s to come in the future and what all else I can possibly do musically. Then maybe, I would love to do an album one day, but putting a date on it, I’m not quite sure yet. It is all pretty shocking and surprising to me. It’s pretty overwhelming.
JAM: You’ve said in the past that you have a lot of goals that you want to work towards. Not just with sports, but with music, acting, modelling, theater, etc. Is rapping just something you want to cross off of your bucket list, or do you view it as something like a secondary passion?
Rush: I always knew since I was a little kid that I wanted to be involved in music. I just didn’t know how and when. My mom used to always say, “Aw, you should do a song. You should sing. You should rap. You should do something!”
My parents were actually a duet. They were a husband and wife duet and they got nominated for Stella Awards and they always toured and I was always on boats and concerts while they were doing their music. My room was actually right above my dad’s studio, so I could never sleep. He always had sessions. He always was working on something.
So I just knew that one day, I would be apart of music and I think that it is a passion of mine. I think that it’s something that I was meant to do. I think it’s something that I was supposed to do. The more that I write and the more positive feedback that I see online, the more that I’m starting to believe like, hey, maybe this is something that I can accomplish and be successful in.
At first, I did think that it was a bucket list thing, but now I’m actually believing that it is something that I am supposed to be doing, as well as other things. Not even just music. I feel like I was made to act. I was meant to model and I feel like wrestling has kind of prepped me for that, especially with the amount of things that I’ve gotten to experience within the wrestling world. So yeah, I have a lot of things that I want to accomplish.
JAM: That’s super cool and that’s a cool fact about your parents. What kind of duo were they?
Rush: They were gospel singers.
