The television debut of AEW on TNT is getting closer, and now we’ve got two huge matches to look forward to on night one.
AEW announced yesterday that Cody would be taking on Sammy Guevara on the first episode of AEW on TNT. Today, they announced their second match, and it is a big one.
On the heels of competing for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship at All Out, Chris Jericho will be making his AEW on TNT debut while taking on the Young Bucks & Kenny Omega with two mystery partners. The announcement was made via AEW’s Twitter account a short time ago:

The details of this match are interesting for a variety of reasons. Obviously, the first question is “Who is the mystery team?” but that isn’t the most important thing to notice. The most important thing to notice is that it pits Kenny Omega opposite Chris Jericho on the first episode of AEW on TNT.

Jericho defeated Omega at AEW Double or Nothing and earned a title shot at All Out against Hangman Page. If, as I have thought for a while, Jericho wins the title at All Out, this immediately sets up Omega and Jericho to feud for the title on their first-ever TV show. I think this would be a wise course of action.
While Hangman Page is the young and upcoming babyface, I think there is more money in Jericho vs. Omega going forward. There is a lot of time left to build Hangman Page up as a main event challenger, but now is not the time for him to win the title.
Going forward, having Jericho defeat Page and go on to feud with Omega, who will chase after the title, is a very good way to give AEW a feud that viewers can sink their teeth into right away. Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho are AEW’s biggest stars with Jon Moxley being up there in the mix too. Not having Jericho and Omega continue their feud would be a miscalculation, I think.
Factoring in the mystery tag team, this makes for a very exciting first TV show main event. There will be a lot of speculation leading into the show about who the tag team is, but for now, we can rest assured that seeing more of Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho will be great, compelling television. As we get closer and closer to All Out, I expect the shape of this TV show will become clearer and clear. I, for one, am very excited.
