2. Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect – SummerSlam 1991

Truth be told, if this was a top 10 slideshow, we could easily include another five matches starring Bret Hart on here and be perfectly justified in doing so. Why? Because he was just that damn good. The Hitman was perhaps the only guy who could call himself “The Best There Is, The Best There Was, and The Best That There Ever Will Be” and have people believe it instantly. As far as strictly in-ring work is concerned serious argument can be made for Bret Hart possibly being the greatest wrestler in WWE history.

After spending years as a member of The Hart Foundation, SummerSlam 1991 served as his coming out party as a singles star, and the reigning Intercontinental Champion Mr. Perfect was the welcoming committee. Both men put on a wrestling clinic and a true technical masterclass, but in between the lock-ups and displays of amateur wrestling, Mr. Perfect made it his civil duty to make Hart look like a million bucks.

Perfect was bumping like mad all while getting his tights torn apart by The Hitman. Meanwhile, Perfect played a conniving heel cheating behind the ref’s back whenever possible. It was hard not to watch and want the pink garbed babyface to give The Perfect One his just desserts for once. After a pitch perfect transition into the Sharpshooter that must be seen to be believed, Hart did just that before hoisting his first ever IC Title above his head in front of his parents for a feel good moment.
