The recent vicious attacks from Brock Lesnar on Monday Night Raw have helped WWE to give Seth Rollins the reboot he desperately needed.

Seth Rollins needed a beating from Brock Lesnar these past two weeks on WWE Raw.

No, I’m not making a veiled reference to any eyebrow-raising interviews. These necessary whippings were strictly a byproduct of where Rollins is at in WWE right now.

Seth Rollins seemed to both lose some of his push, and some of what made him click with fans, during his reign as Universal Champion.

Don’t get me wrong. It started out strong, absurdly strong in fact, with a dream match against AJ Styles. It was just all downhill from there.

Rollins’ feud with Baron Corbin was one of the most drawn out and ultimately boring storylines on WWE TV. The fact that WWE ended up pulling in Rollins real-life relationship with Becky Lynch into the picture in a manner that felt forced and awkward didn’t help either.

Coming out of that rivalry with Corbin, Rollins really didn’t feel like the same sort of guy he was when he was chasing the Universal Championship on the road to WrestleMania.

By having Brock Lesnar win that very title back at Extreme Rules though, WWE created a chance to start Seth Rollins back at square one.

Over these last two weeks, Rollins has felt like the scrappy superstar who will walk through proverbial fire to get a win. That’s the version of Seth Rollins that it feels like fans can connect to. That’s the role that it feels like Rollins could continue being one of the top faces in the company in.

Now, I know this is the point in time where some likely want to circle back to those interviews. That’s a story for a different time though. This is strictly about the onscreen product that the entirety of WWE’s fan base is going to be keeping an eye on.

It’s important for WWE that Seth Rollins continues to look like the face star on that onscreen product that the company obviously envisions him to be. In having him have to work his way through seemingly insurmountable odds against an unstoppable force like Brock Lesnar to recapture the Universal Championship, WWE has achieved that.

Now, it’s only a matter of keeping Rollins in that role while still making his character feel fresh.

At the end of the day, that’s the challenge that WWE is going to be faced with in the coming months. No matter what the outcome is at SummerSlam, Seth Rollins is going to have to move past Lesnar into other feuds. Whether that’s with the Universal Title around his waist or not is honestly of little importance.

What’s important is that WWE doesn’t lose track of what makes Rollins come across as a face who needs and deserves the support of fans. How WWE address that on Raw week in and week out after SummerSlam is going to be vital for the company to figure out once again in the coming weeks.
