5. Owen Hart

Owen Hart’s coronation in 1994 was one the best uses a King of the Ring win in a storyline to date. His sibling rivalry with Bret Hart fueled one of the best feuds in WWE history and his memorable run as a heel.

The two competed in a classic match at WrestleMania X, where Owen surprisingly defeated Bret via pinfall. Later that night, his older brother pinned Yokozuna in the main event to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

In another attempt to prove he was better than his brother, Owen entered and won the 1994 King of the Ring tournament—which Bret won the year prior. Afterward, he took on the moniker “The King of Harts” as a shot at Bret and continued their feud for most of the year.

Owen ultimately lost both WWE title matches against him, but his King of the Ring win was instrumental in his start as a singles competitor. It helped to set him apart from his older brother and added more depth to an all-time great heel character.

Moreover, he continued to use the “King of Harts” nickname, and the crown above a heart logo that stemmed from it, late into his career.
