AEW All Out is dealt a blow today as Jon Moxley revealed he will not be able to compete due to a returning MRSA infection in his elbow.

Devastating news has come out today that Jon Moxley will not be able to compete at AEW All Out. Moxley announced the news via Twitter, and it confirms that his planned match against Kenny Omega has been canceled.

Moxley followed it up with an apology to fans but said he intends to be back in time the debut of AEW on TNT. It’s disappointing news considering the significant hype that had been built up for a first-time match between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega at All Out.

The most important part of this is that Jon Moxley takes care of himself. MRSA infections can be deadly, as he explained about his previous brush with one. Unfortunately, the MRSA infection that required a second surgery after his tricep surgery in 2018 has returned. We wish Moxley a speedy and complication-free recovery.

However, this is certainly a story that will see its conclusion on a future date. If Moxley is actually prepared for the debut of AEW on TNT, the company would be smart to put that match on the first episode head to head with WWE NXT.

Some might think the match is better fitted for the stage of a big event like All Out, but AEW would surely pull in even more viewers with that marquee match. On top of that, it would severely challenge NXT to give fans something must-see on the first episode.

If NXT dips in the ratings when AEW debuts, it won’t be a good look. A match like Kenny Omega vs. Jon Moxley is exactly the kind of thing that would convince fans trying to decide between the shows to watch AEW live and catch NXT afterward.

In the short term, the company will now have only eight days to find a replacement for Jon Moxley at All Out. They could make a controversial call like adding Omega to the AEW World Championship match featuring Adam Page and Chris Jericho, but the most likely outcome is that Omega gets a new opponent for a one on one contest.

AEW has touted that only a small portion of their roster has been revealed, meaning this could be the perfect opportunity for a big-name surprise to be revealed ahead of or even at All Out. Regardless of what is done, we can probably still expect an amazing match from Kenny Omega that night, and an instant classic between Moxley and Omega when the time comes.

Update: As of 5:30pm ET, AEW revealed on Twitter that Kenny Omega will instead face PAC at All Out.
