Joe Coffey vs. Dave Mastiff- Last Man Standing Match
In honor of WWE’s renewed business relationship with Fox, allow me to play the role of [insert non-Shannon Sharpe FS1 talking gasbag here] and deliver this hot take: with a couple of exceptions, most WWE Last Man Standing matches suck.
For the most part, WWE’s version of this match succumbs to the monotonous “wrestler hits a big move and stands around for nine seconds, then rinse and repeat” formula that often saps most of the suspense and drama out of the story.
The best versions of these matches typically have the combatants incrementally escalate the damage they dish out to one another before crescendoing to a huge spot to end the match, which is what we may get here.
Both Joe Coffey and Dave Mastiff work a believable, physical style that includes an array of power moves and vicious elbows and punches. If any two guys on the roster can make this stipulation work, it’s them.
As for who wins, look for Mastiff to come out on top.
Since Imperium formed earlier this summer, Coffey and his Gallus faction have been rightfully relegated to upper-midcard speedbumps, and since Mastiff appears to be on track for a title shot after this show, Coffey doing the honors for the big man feels like a formality.
Prediction: Dave Mastiff wins
