NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff match predictions
Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake)(c) vs. Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) vs. South Wales Subculture (Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews)- NXT UK Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match
The writers built to this match in a baffling manner. If the aim was to give Flash Morgan Webster — one of the best ring names in wrestling, by the way — and Mark Andrews (not this guy) a title shot in their home country, wouldn’t it have made more sense to give these two wins on television for a few weeks instead of trotting out the usual “we haven’t gotten an opportunity, so that’s why we deserve a title shot” trope that flies in the face of wins and losses?
It felt like the writers were leading up to a Gallus/Grizzled Young Veterans match before one of the writers went “$&^$, we need a babyface team in this match”.
It’s a shame, as the traditional tag format with the GYV’s and the South Wales Subculture would’ve produced a far more compelling match than the one we’re gonna get with Gallus shoehorned in.
Regardless, these six are more than good enough to give the fans an entertaining tag title match. Picking a winner will be easy — there’s no reason to take the belts off of James Drake and the criminally underrated Zack Gibson right now — but who takes the deciding fall remains the more interesting question.
The money appears to be in Andrews and Webster chasing, so those two having either Coffey or Wolfgang beat before Gibson or Drake slink in and steal the win should keep the feud going for a while longer.
Prediction: Grizzled Young Veterans retain the NXT UK Tag Team Championships (Zach Gibson pins Wolfgang)
