“Brock Lesnar is 42 and he was WWE Champion! Age doesn’t matter, if you can draw!”

Chris Jericho is 48-years old. It is not blasphemy to say that his days of being a full-time draw are behind him.

The great pro wrestlers get smarter as they get older. Ric Flair comes to mind with this argument. Flair knew how to mask his diminishing in-ring skill set and could still be a force on television. Flair didn’t need to be the top guy in WCW. It is a fact that Ric Flair was WCW Heavyweight Champion into his 50s, but it was at a time when WCW was spiraling down as a company. That is vastly different than Jericho walking into the first AEW on TNT show as World Champion at 48-years old.

Brock Lesnar is not Chris Jericho. The comparison of Brock Lesnar’s run in WWE and Chris Jericho’s potential run in AEW holds no weight. The Brock Lesnar character is billed a super human monster. Chris Jericho is not a super human monster.

From a character development standpoint, Lesnar’s run as a part time WWE Champion has done more harm than good. Fans enjoy the concept of Lesnar appearing every two months. It is still an attraction when Lesnar shows up on RAW. Lesnar did the WWE Universal Championship no favors by appearing once every few months.

Is this the measuring stick we judge the potential Chris Jericho AEW Championship reign with?

Can Jericho be there every week to help advance storylines? That remains to be seen. The truth is Jericho has not been a full time member of any wrestling promotion in 10 years. He is a man of a plethora of commitments outside wrestling. Is he willing to do the work needed to get AEW off the ground and carry the responsibility of being its first champion?
