WWE Clash: Don’t write Braun Strowman out of the main event yet
After suffering another World Title loss at WWE Clash of Champions, some are quick to say Braun Strowman is done for as a main eventer. However, let’s not count these chickens before they hatch.
Like many fans who saw the main event of WWE Clash of Champions last night, I was sad and disappointed to see Braun Strowman lose another main event title match. No, not because I feel like he’s done as a main eventer now, but because he’s my favorite meat castle and I’m a sucker for wrestlers over 300lbs. What can I say? I like beef.
Speaking of this perception that Braun is in the dust now as a main eventer, let’s talk about why some fans may feel that way.
Last night, Braun Strowman was able to kick out of not one, not two, but three Curb Stomps from Seth Rollins. It didn’t help him win the Universal Championship and he lost after eating a Pedigree/fourth Stomp combo, but that is certainly a feat that has never been done and will never be duplicated anytime soon. By booking that finish to begin with, it tells me WWE went out of their way to make The Monster Among Men look strong in defeat. And I think they succeeded.
That is just one reason why I think this isn’t the last we see of Braun in the main event picture, nor that is the last time we’ll see him taken seriously in said picture. The other reason is simply because this isn’t the first time fans have said such a thing. Fans have made similar statements when Braun was in a much worse off position, booking wise.
This is the sixth World Title match Braun Strowman has had on PPV. He’s had big title matches previously at SummerSlam 2017, No Mercy 2017, Royal Rumble 2018, Hell in a Cell 2018, and Crown Jewel. For one reason or another, he failed to walk away with a belt every time.
Mind you, a lot of these instances – mostly the clean-as-a-whistle losses to Brock Lesnar in lackluster matches – painted Strowman in a worse light than he did last night. It was totally understandable why people were saying he was “done” before, but last night felt different.
In a losing scenario, you could not possibly make Braun Strowman look stronger if you tried. He took Rollins to the limit in a way where not only it’d be hard to argue against giving him another title match, but it’d be easy to imagine Strowman winning the next time. But that’s beside the point. The biggest point that needs to be mentioned is that every time he fails to win, fans complain about it. Fans don’t lose interest in Strowman. They raise their voices to exude his injustice.
This means three things: Braun is still over, people still care about Braun, and people want to see Braun succeed. As long as that remains a constant, he’ll never be done for.
Last night was a setback for Strowman, but not an outright humiliating defeat. It only prolongs the inevitable sight of Strowman becoming a World Champion. And when we see it, best believe that fans are going to
