8. Asuka

The streak is already the stuff of legend, despite a rough time since for Asuka. That said, it started well and it hasn’t all been bad.

Asuka was one of the strongest built women in wrestling history on NXT. Her undefeated streak was constant and considerable, including some major scalps along the way. She didn’t just defeat the whole NXT roster, she often defeated more than one of the whole NXT roster. She was so unstoppable that she technically still left NXT as the undefeated champion, despite vacating it on her way out.

Asuka also burst onto Raw with amazing momentum. Debuting in October with a victory over Emma, Asuka went on to win matches against Alexa Bliss, Sasha Banks and Nia Jax en route to a Royal Rumble victory and her fated WrestleMania match with Charlotte Flair. In total, Asuka remained undefeated on Raw for almost six months.

The loss to Charlotte was huge for both women. For sheer match quality, this was the best women’s match we’ve ever seen at WrestleMania and I believe that still to be the case. Asuka’s loss was a genuine surprise.

From there, not much has happened for Asuka. In fact, literally nothing has happened to Asuka. Nothing happened with Asuka. Nothing happened.

When December came, Asuka did win herself a very nice SmackDown women’s championship. This didn’t go anywhere though as after only two championship defenses, Asuka lost the title to Charlotte in a random match on SmackDown.

Asuka was brilliant on NXT and treated like a real star for her first six months on WWE programming. While she has had more than a year of difficulty since, Asuka will always have a lot to offer.

7. Paige

The shining beacon of NXT, Paige was the first NXT Women’s Champion and from day one had the absolute faith of NXT management. Her anti-Diva persona, obvious talent and enthralling charisma made her stand out from the crowd to such a degree that the entire women’s division would become built around her.

Upon being called up, Paige would make an instant impact; winning the Divas Championship from AJ Lee and once again changing the dynamic of women’s wrestling for the time. Paige’s one woman war against Lee, The Bella Twins and, at times, Cameron and Naomi defined that age.

Even after the ascent of the Horsewomen, Paige would remain relevant. She would be one of Charlotte’s first major challenges. It is a cruel twist that her run was ended by a number of injuries.

Though, being fair, she still made an impact while injured as probably one of the most well received general managers in WWE history. Every time a women’s match lasts longer than two minutes, this is the legacy of Paige living on.
