WWE: 3 title wins in the same weekend can’t even save EC3 on Raw
By Brett Grega
Spoiler Alert: WWE still can’t capitalize on the insane talent of EC3, even after teasing his inclusion in the ongoing 24/7 Championship shenanigans.
When I saw a report being spread around from WWE.com that EC3 was trading the 24/7 Championship back and forth with R-Truth at WWE live events over the weekend, I was unreasonable excited.
Now, that’s not to say that the potential for EC3 to be in a real storyline isn’t a reason to get hyped in an old school Mojo Rawley sort of way. No, It’s just that it’s apparently utterly unreasonable to expect WWE to actually execute on any storyline with EC3 at this point.
Going into Monday Night Raw this week, I erroneously built up some level of expectation that EC3 chasing R-Truth around would be the 24/7 Title storyline of choice for the week.
Oh, how wrong I was.
Instead, apparently the reward for becoming a multi-time champion over the weekend in WWE is getting booked in a one-sided squash match with Rusev on Raw.
Yeah, not what I was hoping for.
Knowing WWE’s past treatment of EC3 though, I don’t know why I wasn’t expecting anything other than that.
For whatever reason, WWE seems unwilling to book EC3 like the generational talent he fairly clearly is. I don’t feel like it’s a stretch to say that he’s the closest thing the company has got to John Cena right now in terms of mic skills and look, yet he’s treated like the next coming of Heath Slater on his best nights.
I suppose if I was a “glass half full” kind of person, which I can be at times, then I would just be happy that EC3 was in a match on TV for once. On top of that, I should be thrilled that there’s groundwork that was laid for EC3 to enter the 24/7 Championship picture, even if he should be entering the Universal Championship picture at this stage of his career.
Nice try.
Instead, I’m still going to be out here providing these regularly scheduled reminders that WWE is completely wasting an amazingly talented superstar in EC3.
It’s probably going to fall on deaf ears at this rate, but please WWE, consider this another reminder of what you have in front of you. Find a spot for EC3 to shine in some way, any way, on Raw or SmackDown.
At the very least, try not to get my hopes up to just fail to deliver again, O.K.?
