3. AJ Styles Defeats Cedric Alexander To Retain The United States Championship
AJ Styles, the current United States Champion, continues to love mothers all around the world. While he continues to have that unique gimmick, he will have to keep his head in the game for his upcoming championship match against his rivalrous foe, Cedric Alexander.
His feud with Alexander began when the O.C. randomly attacked Alexander in the backstage area. Afterwards, Alexander pinned Styles in a 10-man tag team match on Raw to get a title opportunity at Clash of Champions.
Unfortunately, such a match between two show-stealing juggernauts was relegated to the kickoff show. Considering that Clash of Champions was in Alexander’s hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina and he lost his first championship match on the main roster in a quick kickoff match, one can’t help but remember the rumors of Vince McMahon wanting Alexander to be buried.
Alexander not only lost that championship match at Clash of Champions, but also lost a 6-Man Tag Match with the Viking Raiders against The O.C. on the following Raw. On top of that, Styles delivered an Avalanche Styles Clash to Alexander after that match to assert his dominance as United States Champion, as well as his superiority to Alexander.
Last week on Raw, Styles got attacked by Alexander during a match between the O.C. and the Viking Raiders. This elicited another championship match between them on this episode of Raw, but it still seems unthinkable for Alexander to win the championship based on the way he has been booked lately.
Hopefully, if AJ retains against Alexander, Gallows and Anderson can also get payback on the Viking Raiders from their match last week.
Alternatively, Alexander could win this match by DQ due to outside interference by Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson in order to extend this championship feud to Hell in a Cell.
Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that Styles will be holding onto the United States Championship for a very long time, no matter who crosses his path.
His determination and never-say-die attitude makes the championship feel prestigious, and the United States Championship desperately needs that after its continual irrelevancy for many years.
With the draft coming up, WWE needs a strong champion to be a top draft pick and AJ Styles fits that build. While Styles facetiously continues his maternal loving gimmick, Vince McMahon will undoubtedly continue his body-building love in disfavor of any cruiserweight who steps foot on the main roster.
