WWE, AEW: 3 moments of Chris Jericho being the hottest mess
By Mira Adama
Beating Rock and Austin on the same night
At the Vengeance Pay-Per-View in December of 2001 the WCW and WWE World Championships were to be condensed into one unified championship. As the story goes, Ric Flair purchases the shares of Shane and Stephanie McMahon, leaving him with equal power to Vince within the company.
There is no single match for these titles. Stone Cold Steve Austin faces Kurt Angle, The Rock faces Chris Jericho, and the winner of each match would fight for THE title.
After interference from Booker T and the boss man himself, Vince McMahon, Jericho beat Austin to become the first Undisputed champion. Naturally, the victory made Jericho INSUFFERABLE and he appeared on Raw the next night with a written acceptance speech.
"First of all, nobody thought I had a chance to become the undisputed champion. Nobody thought I had a chance in hell of walking out of San Diego victorious. EXCEPT FOR ONE PERSON. And that person always had faith in me, that person always believed in me, and that person knew that against all odds that would come out on top. And that person is… MYSELF. So I would like to thank myself for being so strong, so athletic, and so talented to prove all of the doubters and all of the people who think I couldn’t do it wrong."
Jericho milked beating the Rock and Austin “single-handedly” in one night to the last drop. Heat on heat on heat.
