Why WWE vs. AEW is not the war fans are looking for
In the first episode of Weekly DDT (a podcast by Daily DDT), I touch on the idea behind AEW vs. WWE and the “war” that fans have created in their minds.
Starting today, Daily DDT will be producing and releasing its own series of podcasts every week. The podcast in question, Weekly DDT, will release on to Spreaker every Friday at 10 a.m. EST. This podcast will be hosted by the site’s co-expert/editor Joe Anthony Myrick (a.k.a. me) where he will discuss professional wrestling in a large forum with guests from the DDT team. The show won’t zero in solely on one specific promotion as we will analyze matches and moments from companies like NJPW, ROH, WWE and AEW (just to name some examples).
Today’s premiere launch episode will feature the host alone in order for readers and listeners to get to know someone who they won’t be familiar with, but they’ll need to get to know for the podcast going forward. In this premiere episode, it will end with I, the host, focusing on the idea between the idea that there’s an inner feud or “war” between AEW and WWE.
As I explain during the podcast, our own Ashly Nagrant and Jesse Velasquez both do a much better job at articulating this idea in their own articles, but I felt the need to elaborate on what I say in my rant during the Weekly DDT debut episode. I felt this article was necessary for two reasons: 1) To promote this podcast (because, obviously, that’s what you are supposed to do so that you get more listeners, you promote it), and 2) my ideas were very off the cuff and defined by free thought. Figured a more condense, brief summary in an article format would be necessary.
In summary, yes, it’s no secret that AEW and WWE have some beef with each other. It may not be serious enough that either wants to run the other out of town or anything like that, but at least in the spirit of friendly competition, they throw jabs at each other and criticize each other to highlight their own product. The thing is, it makes for an entertaining product. There’s no need to choose sides because both companies have one goal in mind: entertain you, the fans. Don’t choose brands. Choose wrestling.
The first episode of Weekly DDT is live right now and you can listen to it at the following link.
