Aron Stevens promo

After a Thunder Rosa video package, Galli began introducing Tim Storm, but Aron Stevens showed up instead in pirate attire. They continued the “no eye contact” schtick before Galli asked Stevens if he was answering the Dawsons’ challenge. Stevens responded by chastizing Galli for discussing other people in Stevens’ presence before “plugging” his new “movie”, Tropical Pirates, bringing a promotional clip with him. The cheesy clip was met with boos that Stevens played off as appreciation. He then lauded his acting “chops” (saying he had more than Ric Flair) before leaving.

My thoughts: More good stuff from Stevens, who is settling into what appears to be a midcard comedy gimmick similar to, ironically, The Miz’s heel “A-Lister” persona. The “Captain Morgan” chants from the crowd followed by Stevens getting angry and inadvertently doing the Captain Morgan pose put it over the top.

Following another recap of Storm/Aldis from two weeks ago, we go to our next match.

Caleb Konley vs. Dan Parker

Parker had some pretty flashy gear for a guy who was about to do the job. After some pro-Canada trash talk from Parker and some chain wrestling to start, Parker took Konley down, but Konley kipped up, blocked a clothesline attempt and lit up Parker’s jaw with a right hand. After some chops in the corner, the two traded Irish whip reversals. Parker tried to toss Konley to the floor, but Konley kept his balance on the apron and landed another right and re-entered the ring with a slingshot headscissors to Parker.

Konley then blocked a kick, swept the legs and delivered a senton to score a one-count. Parker eventually cut Konley off by yanking Konley’s leg off the middle rope and dropping his head on the turnbuckle.

After some striking offense, Parker applied an abdominal stretch, but when the referee admonished him for trying to grab the ropes for leverage, Konley countered with a hip toss. An enzuigiri, a left hand, a spinning back fist, and a backdrop suplex followed before Konley hit a moonsault to pick up the clean dub.

Winner: Konley via pinfall

Rating: *3/4. The best match of the night. It was a bit more competitive than I thought it would be, but Konley looked crisp throughout. Kudos to the enhancement guy, too.
