The newly christened WWE NXT Cruiserweight Championship is poised to be a big part of the new two-hour show. So, let’s look at every titleholder so far.

On the Oct. 9 episode of NXT, Lio Rush defeated Drew Gulak to become the 12th Cruiserweight Champion. Rush exemplifies everything the title was meant to represent when it was established in September of 2016 before the finals of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic.

Since the title has gone through its fair share of ups and downs. It should be sort of a “work rate title” like the Intercontinental Championship, that helps smaller performers showcase their distinct style of wrestling. The relatively new belt was meant to elevate guys who would likely get lost in the shuffle on the main roster.

That’s why Rush is a perfect champion. He is such a unique talent. No one in WWE moves like he does, and this position will give him the chance to get over because of his athleticism and in-ring ability.

For the most part, the championship, and accompanying title feuds have done wonders for others in the past. Sometimes, it hasn’t worked because WWE seemingly didn’t know what to do with the division. Hopefully, now that it will be featured on NXT more fans will grow to appreciate the Cruiserweights.

In the meantime, here’s a ranking of all 11 men who have held the WWE Cruiserweight Championship over the last three years.
