From its inception in 1989, to its finale in 2000, Halloween Havoc was one of the signature WCW Pay-Pay-Views

The Halloween Havoc PPV series gave fans classic matches and concepts that fans still talk today. Fans still hope WWE will bring back “Spin the Wheel, Make a Deal.”

If Starrcade was WCW’s answer to WrestleMania, Halloween Havoc would be WCW’s version of the Royal Rumble. This show would be the start of Starrcade season. Halloween Havoc gave fans a great deal to remember, and memories that fans would love to forget.

If you are hoping for a play by play of each match, you won’t find that here. The goal is to remind you of great matches in Halloween Havoc. Hopefully this will prompt you to revisit these matches on the WWE Network.

Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio – Halloween Havoc 1997

There is not enough that can be said about this match. In an era of with some of the most innovative lucha libre style wrestling of all time, this match stands out above the rest. This is the best wrestling match of the Eric Bischoff era of WCW.

Mysterio and Guerrero struck gold in this match. It was a combination of hold and counter hold performed at a breakneck speed. Every move Guerrero hit Mysterio with looked like it was a car wreck. WCW rarely had matches that provided fans everything they wanted. This match had a great story, great technical wrestling, and a satisfying finish.

Once the match was over, it was evident that Rey Mysterio had separated himself from the other luchadors in WCW. Guerrero was known for having great matches with lesser talent in WCW. This match showed what both men could provide, if given an opportunity to showcase their skills.

Mysterio would win the match and become WCW Cruiserweight Champion. This is the rare match in WCW that had both competitors came out stronger than they were before the match.

It was, and is, the greatest match in WCW history.
