Savage vs Diamond Dallas Page – Halloween Havoc 1997

The feud between Diamond Dallas Page and Randy Savage was everything that makes professional wrestling special. It was a portrait of the established veteran making the up and coming challenger look credible to the eyes of the fans.

By the time the two locked up at Halloween Havoc, it was the end of their rivalry. It was a rivalry that started with Page not yet looking like he deserved to be in the ring with Macho Man. Page showed different layers to his character. From his ability to make The Diamond Cutter one of the most popular moves in professional wrestling to his skill in invoking sympathy from fans.

Savage ended up with the victory. The win meant less for Savage then what losing did for DDP. At the end of the match, as Savage is beating down a helpless DDP, the story became about how much punishment that Savage had to inflict in order DDP to keep him down.

Page would soon showcase himself as hero that never gave up. This feud allowed fans to believe in that DDP deserved to be where he was on the card

The two men had a great match that stands the test of time. This was the feud that made DDP. Savage was the right man to get it done.
