WWE: Bayley is about to steal the show and the win at Survivor Series
WWE Survivor Series will feature a triple threat match between Shayna Baszler, Becky Lynch, and Bayley, but is SmackDown’s Champion being overlooked?
Last night on WWE Raw, we got confirmation that there will indeed be a triple threat match at WWE Survivor Series between each brand’s top woman. WWE Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley, and NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler have the opportunity to give us an instant classic at Survivor Series.
Things really got started on SmackDown, when Shayna Baszler made her presence felt after Bayley defended her title against Nikki Cross. Sasha Banks was at ringside for the contest, and ended up being Baszler’s first casualty.
Shayna Baszler came through the crowd and attacked “The Boss” from behind, shoving directly into a corner ringpost. Baszler was far from done, as she then turned her focus to SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley.
It was nothing short of dominance from Baszler, who wiped out Sasha Banks, Bayley, and even Nikki Cross who just got caught in the crossfire. Last night on Raw, Baszler got a chance to make her presence felt once again, but chose a very different approach.
Charly Caruso attempted to sit down with “The Man” Becky Lynch to talk about her upcoming match at WWE Survivor Series, but a faint voice from behind her asked for Caruso’s chair. As the camera adjusted, NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler came into frame and took a seat directly across from the reigning Raw Women’s Champion.
In their conversation, Shayn Baszler did an excellent job of introducing herself both to Lynch and to main roster fans who might not be familiar with her work. Baszler brought up her connection to Ronda Rousey, while still emphasizing she is “not Ronda Rousey.” It was excellent promo work by both women, and gave me literal goosebumps while watching.
However, it was what Lynch and Baszler barely mentioned that seemed even more important. Shayna Baszler quickly mentioned she wouldn’t overlook Bayley before declaring she’d pin or tap out Becky Lynch at WWE Survivor Series. Lynch’s response was similar, also saying she wouldn’t take her eyes off Bayley but was focused on Baszler.

Even as they tried to show they weren’t overlooking SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley, that’s exactly what Becky Lynch and Shayna Baszler did. They’re looking right through this vindictive Bayley Buddy killer, and only seem to care about each other.
Which is actually exactly what Bayley’s character needs. While some of her recent changes came from turning her back on the fans, Bayley’s frustrations were also rooted in feeling overlooked and underappreciated in the women’s division. Now, with WWE Survivor Series looming, she already feels like an afterthought in this match.
Bayley has proven herself willing to do whatever it takes to pick up a victory, including underhanded tactics that would’ve once seemed extremely foreign to the former NXT Women’s Champion. Plus she’s got an ace in the hole: triple threat matches are no disqualifications.
Not only does Bayley have the opportunity to use weapons to gain an advantage over Baszler or Lynch, she’s also got “The Boss” Sasha Banks showing loyalty by standing by her. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Banks get involved, only to be ejected by the referee.
The reality is that, even as a heel, Bayley needs to do this herself. Not only could we see some career heel work by Bayley at WWE Survivor Series, but I fully expect her to steal the win at the last second.
Baszler and Lynch will both push each other to new limits, but Bayley only needs to be an opportunist. If she can stay alert and wait for one of her opponents to finish the other off, Bayley can simply toss the remaining challenger out of the ring and take advantage by making her own cover for the win.
Of course, that’s all assuming Ronda Rousey doesn’t show up at WWE Survivor Series to crash the party and help Shayna Baszler defeat Becky Lynch. But that won’t happen, will it?
