Ashley Vox vs. Thunder Rosa

Rosa started things with a go-behind into a sleeper hold, but Vox reached the ropes to force the break. Rosa complied after an extra three seconds, but then yanked on Vox’s hair to draw another five count from the referee. A cacophonous chop followed, but when Rosa went for a forearm after whipping Vox into the ropes, Vox ducked and landed a headbutt.

Vox tried to follow up, but Rosa caught her and dropped her with a backbreaker. Kicks and stomps from Rosa sent Vox retreating to the corner, where Rosa again grabbed the hair illegally. Rosa then snapmared Vox mid-ring and connected with another kick to the back for a nearfall.

Following that, Rosa said “I got two for ya” before stomping Vox’s back two more times. Vox tried to fire up, but Rosa knocked her back down and again drove her boot into Vox’s spine. Rosa then went to the ground-and-pound and applied a body scissors.

Vox started to fight out, but Rosa again snuffed the rally out. Rosa dished out another clubbing blow, but this only fired Vox up. Vox then landed a few blows of her own before using a La Mistica transition to lock in her Real Catch submission. Rosa quickly wiggled out, kicked Vox in the gut, and nailed a front dropkick. She then wasted no time heading up top to hit a double stomp to Vox’s back, which scored her the clean pin.

Winner: Rosa via pinfall

Rating: *1/2. Rosa and Vox told a nice little story here, with Rosa working over the back for the whole match before hitting her finisher. It was another good showing from Vox and Rosa looked good in her Powerrr debut.

Rosa continued the assault after the match before Marti Belle slid interrupted things. Rosa then offered Vox up for Belle to attack as drums played at an increasingly rapid pace. Belle declined and told Rosa to leave, to which Rosa acquiesced.

After a quick plug for the World Title pin, Galli and Cornette quickly recapped the Rosa/Vox match and sent it over to Marquez at ringside, who was with Marti Belle. Belle said she didn’t know who Thunder Rosa was or what she was about, but that she knows Allysin Kay, her best friend, and brought up Kay saying how Belle wasn’t ready for a title shot last week.

She said that she’s had to deal with people not believing in her for years and brought up how hard she’s fought in multiple companies. This brought out Kay, who chided Belle for not coming to her in private and airing her grievances in public.

Before Belle could respond, Thunder Rosa attacked Kay from behind and threw her into the ring post. She continued the beatdown as Belle watched with her hands on her head. Back in the ring, Rosa scored with some more blows as the ritual drums fired up again as she set Belle up for an open attack on Kay. After a few seconds, Belle finally accepted the offer and hit a bicycle kick on Kay!

Belle badmouthed Kay a bit more before leaving, presumably with Rosa.

My Thoughts: Once Rosa came back out and attacked Kay, the heel turn became a foregone conclusion. Still, it was a good angle that set up Kay/Rosa and Kay/Belle. Also, was that Kay’s face on the Women’s Title belt? Is that how the belt is designed? If not, they should consider removing that if Kay’s going to be a babyface going forward.

We’re treated to another “Who is the ‘?’ mark” vignette before heading back to the ring. Ricky Starks made his entrance as footage from his win over Aron Stevens last week played. Stevens once again spoke with Marquez and announced that his match with Starks would be 2-out-of-3 Falls.
