NWA Powerrr Episode 5: Results, Grades, and Highlights
Aron Stevens vs. Ricky Starks- Best-of-Three Falls match
Stevens tried to jump Starks before the bell, but Starks evaded and rolled him up to pick up the first fall. He then took his time removing his chain and bandana while Stevens stood outside the ring shocked. He then did the “No, Yes!” joust with the crowd while Starks adjusted his gear. Good stuff there.
The bell rang for the second fall and Starks tried another schoolboy, this time scoring a nearfall. Stevens then retreated to the apron. He eventually returned and locked up with Starks, muscling him to the ropes. Stevens went for a lariat, but Starks ducks and connected with a right hand that staggered Stevens.
A whip into the ropes produced a beautiful dropkick from Starks and another nearfall. After a few chops and shoulder blocks in the corner, Starks sent Stevens to the parallel buckle headfirst and laid in another chop. He went for some mounted punches, but Stevens pushed him off and got in a few forearms before Starks regained the advantage.
But as the ref forced Starks out of the corner, Stevens capitalized with an eye poke and an ax handle to the back. Stevens then turned up the aggression and executed a vertical suplex for his first nearfall. He then hit a couple more strikes before transitioning into a chinlock.
Starks fought out, but Stevens quickly cut him off. Stevens then tries an Irish whip, which Starks reverses, but Stevens counters with a kick when Starks telegraphed the back body drop. Stevens charged in, but that sparked Starks’ comeback sequence. A back elbow in the corner was followed by a tornado DDT for a nearfall.
Starks went to the top and tried a missile dropkick, but Stevens moved out of the way. Stevens did another Helmsley bow, but Starks caught him in another rollup to score the second fall and the won. Stevens sat in shock as the crowd serenaded him with “You got beat” chants.
Winner: Starks 2-0
Rating: *3/4. Another fun match between these two. This didn’t do much to give Stevens any sort of in-ring credibility, but his character isn’t supposed to be taken seriously anyway, so it’s fine. On the other hand, it appears that the promotion has big plans for Starks.
