After the chaos from Dunne versus Priest settled, we cut backstage to a determined Dakota Kai who cut a promo about how she wanted to prove herself against Shayna Baszler. We got that match-up after a bit of a surprise show-stealer.

Taynara Conti versus Santana Garrett

This was the “NXT debut” of Santana Garrett, and she brought it. In fact, both superstars impressed in this match, as this was probably the best I’ve seen Taynara Conti look in NXT so far.

Some nice chain wrestling kicked off the match before Conti delivered an absolutely wicked running knee to Garrett.

Conti controlled the match from there with some solid MMA-style moves, before it was Garrett’s turn to build up a head of steam.

Garrett unleashed some innovative offense before she missed a handspring moonsault that led to Conti delivering another devastating knee strike to put the match away.

Result: Taynara Conti wins via pinfall

This was a good showcase for both women, as they both came away looking like superstars to watch after a short, but exciting match.

It also helped to show just how deep the WWE Women’s Divisions truly are, considering we hadn’t even gotten to any of the women in the WarGames match yet.

Grade: B

Dakota Kai versus Shayna Baszler

A quick commercial break and hype package for Angel Garza later, we reached Shayna Baszler versus Dakota Kai.

To be honest, I was looking forward to this match even more than the fall-out from the NXT invasion after I saw it announced. Kai and Baszler have some serious history, and both are undeniably going to be major stars in WWE.

In fact, part of me honestly wished this was an NXT Championship match just because of the amount of story that could be told here. Nevertheless, I’m not gonna nitpick things like that when we got this great of a bout.

Kai came out with more confidence in this match from the start, as she facepalmed Baszler at one point in a sign of bold defiance. She even got in the head of the reigning champ a bit with a fake kick spot after.

Baszler was off-balanced from there, as Kai unleashed a flurry of offense. “The Queen of Spades” eventually found her footing though, and Kai’s foot as it would turn out as well, as she reversed a running kick from the apron by sending Kai flying into the turnbuckle.

From there, it was the brutal offense from Baszler we’ve come to expect. She began to dismantle Kai’s leg in her typical fashion, but Kai wouldn’t go down so easily.

She clawed her way back into the match before being caught by Baszler on the top rope. A gutwrench superplex led to a close near-fall.

The two exchanged blows in the middle of the ring then before both collapsed after an epic striking exchange.

Bazler would be the one to ultimately pull out a win at the final hour though as she locked in her signature chokehold not once, but twice to put the match away.

Winner: Shayna Baszler by submission

This was undoubtedly match of the night. These two tore it down in the ring, and made me want that match for the NXT Women’s Championship even more.

After the match was over, an all-out brawl broke out between the women in the WarGames match after Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir began adding some extra injury and insult to Kai.

A kendo stick wielding Mia Yim burst out of nowhere to save the day though, and even the odds in what commentary suggested may have been her way of inserting herself into the conversation to join Rhea Ripley’s team at WarGames.

From top to bottom, this was a brilliant match and segment truly worthy of the high grade I’m giving it.
