The WWE NXT UK Championship has a rather short history, having only three different champions since its inception. This may leave many people wondering: who will be the next to hold the gold?
WWE NXT UK is allowing other championship storylines to develop. However, it is about time that the WWE NXT UK Champion gets some action in the ring.
The Austrian Anomaly, Walter currently holds the WWE NXT UK Championship and is having a rather dominating reign, currently surpassing 200 days.
This towering brute obtained the gold by ending the 685-day title reign of former champion Pete Dunne. Since then, Walter has been nothing short of unstoppable.
Walter is going to need a challenger for his WWE United Kingdom Championship to get some wrestling in-ring time. With several qualified candidates available on the NXT UK roster to choose from, let’s delve into five potential opponents for the Austrian powerhouse.
1. Joe Coffey
Joe Coffey has been after the WWE NXT UK Championship since 2018 when he fought in the WWE NXT UK Championship Tournament.
Now that the other members of Gallus, Mark Coffey, and Wolfgang, have secured the WWE NXT UK Tag Team titles, Gallus is out for all the gold.
It seems like Gallus wants to be the Undisputed Era of the NXT UK division, and unfortunately, the missing piece of the puzzle is the WWE NXT UK Championship. In order to earn it, the Iron King has to go after the current NXT UK Champion Walter, and that is exactly what he is doing.
In a recent episode of WWE NXT UK, Gallus had no issue coming out to interrupt Imperium, and let the entire group know that NXT UK is Gallus’s Kingdom and not Imperium’s.
Recently, Joe Coffey picked up a victory against Tyson T-Bone who is a tough brawler in his own right. This win shows that Joe Coffey can hang with the best of wrestlers, and also certainly puts him on the map for a potential WWE NXT UK Championship match opportunity.
There is a strong likelihood that Coffey will be Walter’s next opponent, and this will be nothing short of warfare. This is especially true when Gallus and Imperium as respective groups are factored into the equation.
After losing his championship opportunity against Pete Dunne at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool, Coffey receives a big boot from Walter which leaves Joe with a settle to score. Fueled by his own rage, and Gallus’s lust for gold, the Iron King will stop at nothing to ensure he ends Walter’s title reign as NXT UK Champion.
The epic battle that can potentially unfold between these two heavy-weights makes Joe Coffey the perfect top pick as a contender for Walter’s NXT United Kingdom Championship.
