Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega – Lights Out Unsanctioned Match

Moxley and Omega immediately started brawling. Omega hit the ropes and Moxley hit a huge black hole slam. Moxley rolled to the outside and threw a trash can into the ring. Moxley hit Omega with the lid and both men and then rolled to the outside. Omega threw Moxley into the front row and hit a running dropkick over the guardrail!

Omega took Moxley all around the arena and hit a double stomp through a garbage can. Omega hit Mox with a few beers and went for a moonsault off the guardrail, but Moxley shoved Omega into the crowd and then suplexed him on the floor. Moxley grabbed a barbed wire bat from under the ring and hit Omega in the stomach with it.

Moxley went to hit Omega in the back, but Omega countered with a chop. Moxley hit him in the stomach again and then hit Omega with the bat several times, leaving Omega’s back bleeding. Moxley put the bat on Omega’s back and stepped on it. Moxley grabbed the bat and tried to rub it on Omega’s face.

Omega fought out and went for a snapdragon, but Moxley rubbed the barbed wire on Omega’s arm to break it up. Omega responded by killing Mox with the trash can and then piledriving him onto it. Omega pulled a table from ringside and propped it up against the guardrail. Omega pulled out his barbed wire broom.

Moxley threw the garbage can at Omega and went for a tope, but Omega hit him in the head with the broom. Moxley started to bleed everywhere from a small cut on the back of his head. Omega swept the broom across Mox’s back and then stomped on it. Omega hit the Krusher onto the broom and got a 2 count.

Omega pulled out a garbage can and threw it into the ring. Omega set it over the ring post and then went for a You Can’t Escape and nailed it, grabbing the garbage can as he did the moonsault. Omega pulled a mousetrap covered board from under the ring and set it up in the ring.

Omega and Mox exchanged strikes, seen Omega nail a V-Trigger and Moxley respond with a lariat, and Omega was down. Moxley hit a flipping suplex on Omega that sent him crashing into the mousetraps. Moxley decided he was going to chain wrestle, but not in the way that you would think as he pulled a huge gold chain from under the ring.

Moxley hit a sidewalk slam into the chain and then a neckbreaker onto it for a 1 count. Moxley put a chain around Omega’s face and pulled back, grinding the chain across Omega’s mouth. Omega grabbed a trash can lid and hit Moxley with it. Moxley responded with punching Omega right in the face and locking on a rear-naked choke.

Omega grabbed the lid again and hit Moxley with it several times. Moxley then hit a big uranage in the ring. Moxley went to ringside and pulled out a screwdriver and he tried to stab Omega with it. Omega hit him with the chain and stopped the attack. Mox ran at Omega with the screwdriver, but Omega moved and Mox stabbed the turnbuckle. Mox hit a back suplex on the chain.

Mox tried to hang Omega wit the chain, but Omega fought out and hit two snap dragon suplexes. Omega went for another, but Mox bit him. Omega fought back and hit the snapdragon for the third time. Omega started hanging Moxley with the chain and he almost went unconscious. Moxley fell right in front of the table at ringside.

Omega hit the ropes and hit Rise of the Terminator onto Moxley and through the table! Omega went under the ring and pulled out a bag, and it was filled with broken glass from the table that Moxley put him through! Omega ran the glass across Mox’s hand, and then he stomped the glass to break it apart further.

Omega poured the glass into the ring and spread it out, but Moxley recovered and kicked him. Omega hit an elevated spinebuster on the glass, but Moxley kicked out. Omega then dragged Mox through the glass and locked on a sharpshooter. Moxley had to power up and crawl through the glass to make the ropes. That was insane.

Omega picked up several shards of glass and tried to put it in Moxley’s mouth. Omega went or a V-trigger, but Moxley dodged and hit a German suplex into the glass. Omega stood right up and hit a V-Trigger that led to Moxley spitting out glass. Omega then hit another V-Trigger and Moxley started to climb up the ramp.

Omega grabbed the screwdriver from the corner and slowly walked Moxley down and dragged the screwdriver across Moxley’s head. Omega called the Young Bucks and Page and demanded that they bring it out, they refused, but Omega insisted. Nick Jackson limped from the back with the others carrying a huge bed of barbed wire.

Omega picked up Moxley and tried to hit the One-Winged Angel off the stage into the barbed wire! Moxley countered and went for a Death Valley Driver, but Omega fought out and went for a V-Trigger. Moxley blocked and then suplexed them both into it, and they were both attached to it. The ring crew had to come out and pull both men out.

Moxley started punching the ring crew and tried to suplex Omega through a part of the stage, but Omega fought out and hit Moxley with a ventilation tube. Omega then hit a V-Trigger through the giant Full Gear logo, and Mox was the first man up. The crowd cheered like crazy. Moxley and Omega brawled back towards ringside and ended up back in the ring.

Omega grabbed a piece of the broken table and went back into the ring, but Moxley hit the Paradigm Shift on Omega into the glass! Omega kicked out. Moxley went back to ringside and pulled the apron off and started undoing the padding at ringside. Moxley peeled back the mat, exposing the wood.

Moxley went for a Gotch Style Piledriver on Omega, but Omega hit a backbody drop on the wood. Omega hit a V-Trigger in the corner and went for the One-Winged Angel on the wood, but Moxley fought out and went for the Paradigm Shift. Omega fought out and hit a Paradigm Shift, but Moxley kicked out!

Omega went to the top rope and went for a phoenix splash, but Moxley moved and Omega crashed face-first into the wood! Moxley went for the pinfall, but Omega kicked out. Moxley picked him up and killed him with an elevated Paradigm Shift for the 1-2-3! What a match!

Result: Jon Moxley

Rating: ***** (5 stars)

Holy crap, Omega and Moxley killed each other in this match. They brawled all over the arena, bled everywhere, took insane bumps, and Omega was left half dead in the ring. Moxley flipped off the camera saying that’s how much that counted. The Young Bucks came out and looked after Kenny, looking very worried about him.

Show Rating: **** (4 stars)

This was an excellent show from AEW, especially with the very long main event that saw Omega and Moxley go all out for the whole match, beating the crap out of each other. Some matches before Jericho and Cody got the crowd were a bit dead, but the in-ring was very good. The heat hurt them in that case, but everything in the top two matches were excellent. AEW delivered a very fun night of wrestling.

However, AEW was clearly hurt by the lack of character development for some of the wrestlers, with Emi Sakura coming to mind. The crowd loved Riho, but AEW did not provide a sufficient enough reason for us to care about her and Riho.

Overall, the show was still very good, and AEW had a very strong showing, especially when you consider how fantastic the main event was. The next episode of AEW Dynamite is going to be something to see as we are left with a very big question: What is next for Jon Moxley?

Also, what does AEW have planned for Cody Rhodes and MJF? Who will be next to face Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship? There are also questions about who will take on SCU for the AEW World Tag Team Championship as well.

Will we see Awesome Kong go after Riho for the AEW World Women’s Championship next, or will she continue to take out people that have failed to beat Britt Baker, as Brandi Rhodes seems intent on? Either way, AEW has a ton of options going into the future, and I expect their plans to start being revealed soon.

Next. Cody Rhodes and The Case for Babyface Management. dark

AEW’s momentum going forward will be very interesting, especially when you consider Hangman Page defeating Chris Jericho. AEW might be setting up an AEW World Championship match with Jericho on TV in the next few months and then a PPV match with Moxley down the line, which I think is the next money match for AEW. I would expect AEW to start giving Moxley a big win streak on TV leading into it, and I imagine a feud will be great for it.
