Awesome Kong is about to give the women’s division what it needs

This is more of a personal opinion, but it’s hard to become truly invested with what AEW has done with its women’s division so far. While there are several marketable stars such as Britt Baker (who defeated Bea Priestley on the buy-in), AEW has spent its time trying to establish many of its lesser-known talents in the title picture.

There’s nothing wrong with that consider Riho and Emi Sakura had a solid title match on the main card, but the women’s division may get the boost it needs with the arrival of Awesome Kong.

Kong technically made her debut at Double or Nothing and appeared to be a major player upon her arrival, but after helping Brandi Rhodes pick up a win over Allie at Fight for the Fallen, both her and Rhodes have been absent outside of a pair of vignettes on Dynamite.

That all changed on Saturday as Rhodes and Kong emerged after Baker’s victory. With Priestly digesting what just happened, Kong destroyed her, whipped out a knife (which might have been a precursor of what was to come) and cut a lock of her hair while Rhodes sat back and smiled manically.

Long story short, we’re about to watch Kong rip through the entire women’s division and that could be something that draws a little more attention to it moving forward.
