The rankings system is a nice touch

One of the biggest complaints with the WWE is that wins and losses don’t seem to matter in their ring. While WWE briefly tried to fix this with a “Top 10 List” on Smackdown back in Feb. 2018, that idea only lasted very briefly before being scrapped entirely. Now, AEW has decided to take that similar concept to another level with their rankings system.

On Saturday, we saw a pair of upsets that keep fans in the know as to where certain wrestlers rank in their respective classes. Proud and Powerful was ranked fourth in the tag team rankings, but defeated the Young Bucks, meaning they should move up the ladder.

Conversely, number three’s “Hangman” Adam Page defeated number two’s Pac. Meanwhile, with number one’s Cody basically removing himself from the title picture entirely as a result of the stipulation in losing to Chris Jericho, Hangman moves into that title conversation despite already losing to Chris Jericho back at All Out.

It seems there might be some kinks to work out here, but it’s still interesting to watch. Much like college football, having a number next to a wrestler’s name can add extra excitement to a match which should be a good thing moving forward.
