NWA Powerrr Episode 6: Results, Grades, and Highlights
We first see a video recapping the conclusion of last week’s “impromptu” main event, which, of course, featured the return of the Rock n’ Roll Express.
From there, we step “Into the Fire” before shifting to Joe Galli and Jim Cornette, who ran down what’s advertised for the show.
They then went to Dave Marquez, who introduced the Rock n’ Roll Express. As “Rock n’ Roll” chants filled the GPB Studio, Ricky Morton took to the mic to hype up Outlaw Inc.’s (Eddie Kingston & Homicide) World Tag Team Title match for later in the show before declaring that the Rock n’ Roll Express were back and to never count them out.
Robert Gibson then quickly put over the NWA before Kingston and Homicide showed up. Kingston talked up the Rock n’ Roll Express some more before saying that he doesn’t see how he and Homicide are going to lose to The Wildcards after getting the legend’s stamp of approval.
My Thoughts: Short, but good promo work from Morton and Kingston. It seems innocuous but having the legends put over the title match and how excited they are to see it makes it feel like a must-watch event.
We then head to the ring for our first match
Trevor Murdoch vs. Caleb Konley
Both men lockup to start, with Murdoch transitioning into a side headlock. Konley shoots him into the ropes, but Murdoch bounces right back with a shoulder tackle. They then do the spot where Murdoch runs and Konley does the dropdown and the leapfrog, ending with a Konley hip toss attempt. Murdoch tries to counter with a hip toss of his own, but Konley counters that into a monkey flip and follows up with a dropkick.
After some strikes in the corner, Konley whips Murdoch to the opposite corner and goes for a Stinger Splash, but Murdoch catches him and drops him with a spinebuster. A straight right hand follows, as does an elbow from the neckbreaker position. Murdoch then hit three straight bodyslams and whipped Konley to the corner.
Murdoch went for a splash of his own, but Konley drove his boots into Murdoch’s chest to cut him off. Konley then executed a leg sweep and a running senton. He went for a German Suplex, but Murdoch broke free of the waistlock. After the standing switch, Konley grabbed Murdoch’s leg, tripped him again, and hit a double stomp for a nearfall.
Konley then attempted a springboard moonsault but Murdoch got his knees up (it looked more like Konley tried to hit the moonsault on Murdoch’s legs, but whatever). Murdoch then hit a Full Nelson slam before hitting his top rope bulldog for the win.
Winner: Murdoch via pinfall
Rating: *3/4. This wasn’t long, but it was good while it lasted, which shouldn’t be a surprise given the workers involved. This will presumably play into the story of Murdoch fighting for a full-time contract. The crowd was very much into Murdoch throughout this match.
