Britt Baker (6-2) vs. Hikaru Shida (3-1)

Shida and Baker locked up, and Baker put on a headlock. Baker hit a shoulder tackle, but Shida got right up and both women exchanged arm drags and sweeps. Baker ducked a kick and we had a stalemate. Shida blocked a kick, hit a forearm, and then after an exchange, Baker went for Lockjaw right away to end it early.

Baker hit a suplex, but Shida kicked out. Baker locked on a chinlock, and the camera showed that Baker’s nose was bleeding. Shida was sent to the corner and Baker went for a corner charge and hit a forearm, but Shida turned it around and hit a series of hard forearms. Shida managed to lay Baker across the top ropes and hit a knee to Baker’s ribs.

Shida sent Baker into the guardrail and grabbed a chair. The referee warned her not to use it, but she set it up and put it down before hitting a flying knee on Baker. Shida went for a deadlift suplex from the middle rope to the apron, but Baker fought out and yanked Shida’s arm across the ropes.

Baker hit a sling blade and then a pumphandle face buster for a two count. Baker was sent into the corner and Shida charged, going for a flying knee, but Britt dodged and Shida ended up on the apron. Baker hit the draping DDT for a 2 count. Baker was showing increased frustration as the match went on, and Shida managed to hit a flying knee again, sending Baker to the mat.

Shida hit a judo throw on Baker, and then hit a fireman’s backbreaker for a 2 count. Shida hit the running knee and went for a pinfall, but Baker fought out and went for the Lockjaw. Shida made the ropes, which frustrated Baker, so she dragged her back into the middle of the ring and hit the Twist and Shout for a 2 count. The exchanged holds again for a minute or so, and Shida hit a running knee for the pinfall!

Result: Hikaru Shida (4-1)

Rating: ***3/4 (3.75 stars)

AEW seems to be planting the seeds for a Britt Baker heel turn, as she showed a lot of frustration in this match. We will have to see what happens down the line, but nothing happens by accident in AEW in terms of character moments.

A promo aired for the Dark Order, as a man had his glasses stomped on, and people made fun of him. The man saw an ad on the subway TV promising to help people find themselves, promising strength and self confidence. Several people in the video had a glitch and they were wearing Creeper masks. They promised to find us. It seems like the Dark Order is a cult that is preying on people who struggling in life. People who are on losing streaks. Hmmm. I liked this.
