On SmackDown’s go-home show before WWE Survivor Series 2019, Roman Reigns will be in tag team action while Daniel Bryan “summons” Bray Wyatt for one last in-ring confrontation before Sunday. Meanwhile, Team Raw and Team NXT may be lurking in the background to deliver one final blow.
The show opens backstage with King Corbin (with Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler by his side) holding a meeting with the entire SmackDown roster as the self-professed WWE locker room leader. Not waiting for appointed locker room, Roman Reigns (with Mustafa Ali and Shorty G by his side) starts to make a speech himself.
Roman says that they know NXT and Raw will be make their way to the show tonight, but they won’t act like cowards like Corbin. Instead, they’ll open the doors to the arena to allow both teams to come on to their turf. Corbin and his crew hate the idea. Him and Roman argue and nearly come to blows until The Boss breaks it up.
Sasha Banks says she doesn’t care about men fighting over their egos and the SmackDown women’s division are prepared to handle business right NOW.
After the opening graphic, Banks and the rest of the women’s version of Team SmackDown (Nikki Cross, Lacey Evans, Carmella and Dana Brooke) make their way to the ring. Banks picks up the mic to say this is their show and they’re ready to take care of business because no one’s jumping them from behind. After dropping Team NXT on their home turf last Wednesday, she says NXT’s afraid of them and goad Team Raw to come to the ring and catch their own beating.
Charlotte Flair’s music hits and she arrives to the ring with the rest of Team Raw (Asuka, Kairi Sane, Natalya and Sarah Logan) to address “the welcome wagon,” so Charlotte calls Team SmackDown. She appreciates them opening the door for their arrival, but promised Raw would’ve kicked it down anyway. She challenges Sasha Banks to a one-on-one match
Both teams staredown in the ring, but NXT’s theme song hits. Team NXT (Rhea Ripley, Tegan Nox, Mia Yim, Candice LeRae and TONI STORM (???)) hit the ring from the crowd. Ripley proposes a three way instead of a one-one for tonight. Captain vs. Captain vs. Captain.
Everyone hits the ring and a brawl ensues, leading us to a commercial break.
Grade: B+
Very by the numbers way to book a match, but I really liked this for what it was. Random to see Toni Storm casually a part of Team NXT after she’s never been involved or mentioned in the NXT invasion stuff (unless I missed an episode of NXT UK or something), but I’m not complaining. Toni rocks.
