Matt Hardy vs. Buddy Murphy [Grudge Match]

Buddy Murphy hits multiple stomps to Matt Hardy at the corner turnbuckle and hurls him through the middle rope into the steel post. As Matt Hardy rolls to the outside, Murphy chases him and slams him into the barricade.

Murphy tosses Hardy back into the ring and goes onto the top rope. Murphy flies, but Hardy counters with a Side Effect. Hardy then attempts the Bull Dog. Murphy counters the Bull Dog, but Hardy manages to get on the top rope and nail Murphy with an elbow to the back of Murphy’s head.

Hardy then signals for and attempts the Twist of Fate, but Murphy counters and hits three running knees to Hardy for the three-count and the victory. Murphy then grabs a mic to call out Aleister Black, who shows up very quickly.

Aleister Black performs an elbow strike and a knee strike to Buddy Murphy, making his nose bleed a bit more. Murphy then retreats ad he and Black await to fight another day.

Result: Buddy Murphy

Rating: 2.0/5.0 Stars

Analysis: It was great to see Matt Hardy back but saddening to see him lose. Nonetheless, Hardy is a veteran and Murphy needed to win this match in order to look strong for his new rival, Aleister Black. The post-match attack was a decent way to tease their feud going forward. Hopefully, their eventual match ends up on PPV. The cameras then shift to a backstage interview between Charly Caruso and Charlotte Flair as Charlotte discusses her scuffle with Asuka last night at Survivor Series and how she did no wrong in leading her team responsibly.
